I just finally unlocked every single ship... and then lost everything :(

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 05:40 PM PDT

No joke: I had got Rock Type B to the final sector on hard, meaning that I had unlocked Rock Type C and had finally unlocked every single ship in the game!

That literally just happened, then not much more than 3 minutes later my computer crashed during battle with the Rebel Flagship. I restart my computer to find no "continue" option...

...And every ship is locked again... and all of my records and stats are wiped... 5 years of playing this game here and there, all gone.

It must have been writing to my file right as the crash happened and corrupted it.

Is there anything I can do?

Welp, I guess I beat the game...

Just got my second ever victory after not touching the game for a long time

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 04:12 PM PDT

All i can say is this is an appreciation post to the game, it has had me hooked the past few days all over again, the music and game play is second to none.

I ran kestrel original layout, utilizing cloaking, boarding and lasers/halberd beam and the flagship went fairly soundly, only taking a while on the third stage.

Excited to unlock more layouts of ships and try new strategies, having only played maybe 10-15 Games.

    Don't you hate it when

In the 3rd sector on Normal, a decent run, 2 shields, Burst 2 and Chain, a Mind Control you get wrecked by boarding party of 4 along with Flack, Burst, Zoltan shields so mind control doesn't help and not a single fuck is given by AI.

P.S. When I see a ship with 1 laser which is less than my current shields I usually let the crew members boost their skills. It takes a lot of time and I usually just wait around for an hour until it's done, but I wonder if it's worth the time spent? Do you do the same?

Someone did an orchestrated cover for "Last Stand"

My craziest run so far, or “It’s not over till it’s over”.

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 02:35 AM PDT

After a successful run with the Nesasio, one of my favorite ships (if I had to give a top 3, it would probably be Basilisk-Adjudicator-Nesasio), I unlocked the DA-SR12, without any doubt one of the ships with the strangest gameplay in the game. To behold: you trade your two starter, power-efficient weapons for the Big Buzz itself, the glaive beam. The strategy of the ship is simple: cloak for 10 seconds just after the enemy shoots, avoid the shot, wait for the cloak to finish, slice 'em in two since few things can resist a glaive beam in sector 1-3.

Let's do this, I say, changing the ship's weird name to "the Albatross". First sector is uneventful, I rapidly find the 50 scrap to get level 3 cloak (allowing to stay cloaked until after the beam fires and destroys the enemy ship, a very useful perk), upgrade a few systems in sector 2 and got the "bird of prey" achievement against a lanius ship, and in sector 3, at the beginning, I get a shield system.

However, sector 4 is where trouble starts brewing. You see, however how OP the glaive beam is against poorly shielded opponents, it's incapable of soloing ships with 3+ shields, and soon enough a drone becomes the first unkillable opponent in the run. I hadn't found any decent weapon yet, and had bad draws with the system shops. Suddenly, a ship with a breach missile appears. I try cloaking through the first, but at 94% evasion the missile manages to hit my cloak. One bomb to kill my engines later, I'm in big trouble. I send almost everyone to repair the cloaking system, and prepare to jump away, but my destroyed engines are slow to charge. The breach missile keeps hitting me, and I prepare myself mentally for the worst but, miraculously, nothing hits my glaive beam and I can at last silence the enemy ship. I am at 5 hp in a rebel sector…

I pick 2 more fights on the way to the exit, but fortunately I manage to pick them up quickly, and make my way to sector 5: pirates… I try limping my way to a salvation of some sorts, maximizing the amount of nodes seen, but slowly but surely attrition kicks in… 3 hp… one single hp… "I am boned", I think. Another fight kicks in… I quickly destroy it when suddenly… a shop. That shop, probably sent by Kazaaaplethkillik himself, had the two things I needed the most: a BLII, and of course some sweet sweet repairs.

I wasn't out of the woods yet. I couldn't fire the BLII with the beam, and in my precipitation to put myself to around 18 hp, I hadn't noticed that I lacked fuel. And indeed, just two jumps later, it runs out. The first is unsuccessful, but then miracle strikes again: I get the slug refueling event… against a coffin ship with 2 shields. It's just a matter of destroying the life support, then the engine, and then evacuate most of the ship as I wait as these fuckers had two fire bombs. Slowly but surely, the two idiots asphyxiate, and I can get some all-too-precious fuel.

Enter sector 6, I still wasn't convinced I could win. I was working towards a BLII/Glaive combo, but that in itself wasn't enough. Suddenly, as I get exactly 80 scrap, a shop appears and sells me a hacking system. Shortly after I found drones. And because sector 6 was decidedly the friendliest ever, I get a free ion gun! With renewed confidence I jump to a disappointingly uneventful abandoned sector 7, and enter the last stand.

The last stand is somewhat rng-based, as depending on its layout and the rebel advance you can get several hundreds more scrap. I got lucky enough to get a very good one, with 2 close repair stations and several available nodes very close by. First phase is very easy when you chew through shields like a mouse through gruyere, and I take no damage at all, however for some reason my usual trick fails (that is, hack the med bay at level 2 hack to kill the guy inside). Phase 2 is uneventful as well: the missile volley is cloaked through, bypassing the first surge as well, shields are down, I execute the bastard for 15 damage before he has a chance to launch a second surge.

However, my strategy has a flaw, and that flaw is phase 3. It's effectively my strategy's counter, with a zerg rush of creeps and a MC unit shielded by a very thicc Zoltan shield. I have some ion and mantises, but very soon I have to shut the doors (level 3 saves lives peoples) to asphyxiate those my mantises couldn't beat. They all die but alas, a MC touches the combat mantis, which kills the other, followed by another crew member that couldn't really move due to asphyxiation. The surge batters the albatross twice, causing high damage. Meanwhile, the supershield is finally down. I hack the shield system, smite the missile battery one last time, wait for the glaive beam to recharge, and finally slice the ship apart. Victory. I really wouldn't have guessed I could do it, and it definitely got sloppy, but hey, a boss beaten is a beaten boss. Still was probably one of the most fun run I ever had, up there with the mantis cruisers.

On a somewhat more humorous note, with this victory I have beaten the flagship with a strategy based on all 4-power weapons, since my first nesasio run actually used a BLIII to great results. Yeah, really.

What would you call the 2 player mode?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2020 12:24 PM PDT

The one where one person commands and the other follows. I think streaming that on twitch while playing could be fun and I want to try it. Would like to know the name so I can refer to it by name on the discord.
