Started going for hard win streaks, here's my stats after 100 runs!

A little background, I first got FTL a little before AE. Logged about 180 hours on steam playing on and off. I beat every ship eventually, some only on easy and a few on hard. After not playing at all for a few years I recently picked up the tablet version. First I went through the ships in order on normal getting a win with each. A bunch I got on my first go, some took several tries though. I was also restarting when I got back sector 1s or if everything started going wrong.

When I was about halfway through it or so I started watching a little bit of FTL streams (shoutout to /u/CrowRevell). I've hardly watched streams of any game before but I got curious and ended up learning a ton pretty quickly. By time I finished the last ship I was excited to really dive into hard streaks myself and it ended up going far, far better than I ever hoped.

Now I've been having more fun with FTL than ever before. Not giving up on runs with bad RNG and learning how to win when everything seems to go wrong is incredibly rewarding. I've also found the puzzles of things like how to get crew kills or safely navigate scary fights to be even more interesting at this level. I definitely play a pause heavy playstyle, with a decent amount (but not crazy amount) of micro. Playing on tablet has been a lot less limiting than I first assumed.

I'm not looking to make a guide at this moment, but I figured I'd share some random things about my playstyle and experience.

    • I'm most proud of my lowest win scores (4006 Stealth B and 3417 Zoltan A). They were both runs with just awful early sectors that led to having to run from fights later to fall even further behind the curve. Still pulling out wins in the end was honestly a real rush. I felt very rewarded for all the effort I put into keeping the runs alive. Other wins I remember distinctly are a Rock B where I didn't add a weapon until sector 5 and a Mantis C where I was at 3 hull a couple jumps in.

    • Hack/Cloak/MC are always my preferred systems, and I nearly get a main system for every slot. I didn't buy teleporter once and only got drone control 2-3 times.

    • I usually dont get 3 shield bubbles until sector 5, I'd say I get it sector 6 or later more often than I get it in 4.

    • I very much prefer fast weapons. Never used a vulcan, a glaive outside of stealth b, and only used flak2 for half of a sector. I generally prefer projectiles over beams as well, although I do occasionally go for the all beams + shield hack build.

    • Getting crew kills is both super important and often really fun. Hacking and MC open up a lot of options, but there are a lot of ways to get it using just weapons and patience.

    • It's kind of crazy how little reactor power you can get away with. If a run is really tight I'll often be several reactor power short even with battery running and O2/med bay off. It's all about just powering what you need when you need it and no more. The same goes for a lot of upgrades as well. You need scrap on hand for stores to get what you need.

    • I definitely favor getting systems early and beefing up offense. Being aggressive and able to control fights is often safer than beefier defenses.

    • Never give up! I've had so many fights where my heart sank and I thought 'well, that's it.' But I always still try my hardest even if I think it's hopeless. It's amazing how many times you can actually just squeak by and then one lucky jump and it's all turned around.

    • We have an amazing community! It's small, but so many people have tons of knowledge and are always willing to help. I would definitely encourage people to both challenge themselves and seek out resources to learn more.

So thank you to everyone who has helped me out! I couldn't have improved so much so quickly without it. I definitely feel on the path to getting the coveted 28 ship streak!

Just finished a stream getting my first win ever, crazy thing was that I had unlocked 3 ships in 1 run, the rock A, stealth A and slug A!

What could you want other than double vulcan?
