Why are boarding drones so strong?

    Posted: 09 Nov 2020 02:02 PM PST

If they were just the 150 hp and the high damage, it wouldnt be so bad. But the fact that they create breaches is painful as they usually end up breaching a system and you end up with your crew slowly suffocating unable to fix the breach due to there being a drone attacking them. And if they land in o2, it can be a game over if you don't have crew that can fight. And when you destroy one, usually another follows soon. In normal combats, they can be avoided until you dispatch the enemy. On the flagship fight you are just going to lose if they get into your ship. So that's how i got completely deleted on flag ship because i was so busy trying to throw crew at a drone that had breached my o2 i wasnt able to properly fight the ship itself. And when I had defeated it, another was shot in and it landed in o2 again which led to me losing an otherwise amazing run.

    What's everyone's favorite boarding race?

My favorite is a crystal/mantis combo. It lets you wreck systems without wasting time fighting enemy crew, and it lets you easily kill enemy crew even if they have a working medbay.

    Are distress beacons worthwhile?

    Posted: 09 Nov 2020 05:02 AM PST

I'm wondering if anyone has done some proper analysis / stats on this. When exploring without long range scanners I tend to prioritise distress signal beacons over plain beacons, on the basis that there is likely some event or ship encounter there instead of an empty sector. But how often do distress beacons work out profitably, especially early game?

So many distress events are worthless or worth little without the right blue options. Giant alien spiders, diseased colony, malfunctioning defense system, etc. Some are out of fuel ships that aren't necessarily worth helping out. In the Lanius sectors there's even a couple of "oh, there's nothing here" events. And there's that fecking moon counting event that always catches me out!

The best ones are pirates attacking civilians, since there's a chance of double rewards. A bunch of others have handy enough fights. And the ones for which you do have the blue options can be extremely rewarding.

So, if you're early game and unlikely to tick any of the blue options, how much more worthwhile are those distress beacons over the gamble of an empty regular beacon?

Is there an INI change to get rid of the weak reactor debuff?

Trying zoltan C. Just want to remove the weak reactor debuff so it's less FUCKING AWFUL compared to the other ships. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk
