What's y'all's opinion on the glaive beam

    Posted: 25 Jul 2020 02:11 PM PDT

The glaive being my favorite weapon the second I see it in store I buy it screaming glaive beam. I once even found two glaive beans in one run and you know how that goes. Second there Shields go down I start screaming glaive beam as two beams RIP there ship in two or four pieces

If you asked me then which one I supported, I would've said the Rebels, they were all about freedom, more ships to loot and burn! But now… With the Rebel fleet decimated, it seems clear who'll emerge on the winner's platform. I think the war was good for the galaxy, at least it got the sticks out of the asses of the Federation leaders, or it blew them up. But really, now that I've stopped pirating, I see the value of a more open society. The remaining authorities are already negotiating peace treaties with the rocks and the slugs, the Zoltan's already having rejoined the Federation after the rebel's flagship was destroyed. The rebels are probably planning one last kamikaze strike at the heart of the federation, or maybe not. The mantis, I couldn't say, at least the rockmen have enough common sense not to keep warring with the (now) most powerful fleet in the galaxy. I can't see the Mantis stopping all attacks against the other races. They'll probably sign some non-aggression treaty, then promptly violate it a few years later in a massed attack on the Engi. All that bullshit about "honor" and "pride" yet they continually prey on the weakest race in the galaxy.

    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Normally, ships that crossed through this area were pirates, cargo ships, or rebel ships. We didn't even attempt to engage rebel ships, and us pirates had sort of an unspoken code, "leave me alone, and I'll do the same." Add to this that most cargo ships didn't have the weapons to defend themselves from a floating Engi, and you see why this was so unusual.

    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Auto-assaults were the fucking worst, the rebels were cranking out hundreds of those shitbags with stolen Federation supplies every year. They tended to be made of inexpensive materials, so we would already get less scrap per kill, But the icing on the goddamn cake was the fact that the rebels slapped every fucking upgrade they could find on these things. I personally think there was a secret rebel allied Engi faction supplying the AI, I mean, they could practically think. So, you've got a super-computer piloting a big-ass warship with everything from glaive-beams to combat drones, see what I mean?

    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

These are all completely out of context, but bear with me, I'll (probably) release the final product in a week or so, depending on how many hate comments I get. Jk lol. I will definitely (possibly) release the final. (Maybe.)

Random tips for winning on Hard for intimidated scrubs like me

    Posted: 25 Jul 2020 04:56 AM PDT

So very recently I had my first hard difficulty win, and shortly after within the next few runs I managed to get two more wins. I've been playing this game for around 2 years, and have ALWAYS been indescribably intimidated by the hard difficulty. However, now that I'm getting into the swing of things, I noticed a few MAJOR tips that have helped my transition drastically:

    1. Stop repairing hull to full! I used to do this literally all the time, and never realized the needless scrap waste this can be. As long as you have 1 hull point, you can live to fight another battle. I've made it a habit to never repair until around Sector 5/6, and that has afforded me scrap to purchase crucial weapons and systems early on. Also don't forget that certain events will heal your hull anyway, and the start of Sector 8 automatically heals 10 hull points and gifts fuel as well. Time that bonus properly.

    2. Early defensive upgrades will make or break you. If you can get two shield bubbles and Engines level 3/4 within Sector 1/2, you are in good shape. Easiest way to do this is tip 1.

    3. While enemy ships still have basic lasers that you are protected from, TRAIN! Go AFK and rotate your crew to max out training on every skill possible. This gives you crucial survivability for the rest of the run. Easiest way to do this is having proper defensive capabilities early from tip 2.

    4. Plan your route so you are not hitting stores while cashless. This is just a waste of a jump and usually depressing. There is literally nothing worse than seeing a shiny BL2 sitting in there while your broke ass only has 13 scrap to your name.

    5. Do not ever be afraid to flee a fight. Calculate early on if you have a proper strategy for each encounter. If things go south, power those engines to full and get the hell out of dodge. This right here is something I NEVER did before, cause momma ain't raise no coward. However, I can tell you that each hard win I've had required at least one flee from a fight, and usually it's a random auto scout with insane weaponry. Just live to fight another day.

    6. Learn your microstrategies. The layers of strategy in this game is what makes it so special. Volley timing should go without saying, but Boarding is the biggest one that can reap huge benefits. You can only learn these from practice and experience, and every failed run should teach you a few lessons.

    7. Power management is everything. Specifically, engine power is the key to the juggle. If you aren't powering up to jump because you're diving, there's no reason for your engines to have ANY power during most of the fight. If you invest in more shields than you can power, often times you can depower engines, shield up, and you're fully protected. As soon as a bomb or missile is about to enter your shield range, then you can put full power to engines to attempt a dodge (especially if you can cloak as well). As soon as the threat passes, engines can drop to 0 again.

These are just a few things that I didn't always need to focus on playing on Easy, but I absolutely had to fully embrace to start having success on Hard.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

    Get Down Mr. President!

    Best hardmode flagship strategy?

    Posted: 25 Jul 2020 08:01 PM PDT

I recently had what seemed like the perfect run while trying to get a hardmode victory using Engi A, but was completely destroyed by the flagship's last phase. I had a combat drone, defense 2 drone, supershield drone, halberd beam, the starter ion weapon, cloaking, teleporter, med-bot dispersal, drone recovery arm and pre-igniter, yet still could hardly damage the flagship in phase 3. The first two phases were relatively easy and caused very little damage to my hull. Does anyone have any good strategies for the final hardmode stage, especially with one of the Engi ships?

I must say the artillery module is insane, 4 dmg to the enemy for free every 20 seconds. This time i get to see the moment of the victory thanks to this XD .

    Should I always take Zoltons?

    Posted: 25 Jul 2020 11:32 AM PDT

Hey everyone. Quick question. I've been doing allot of play and have been picking up zoltons, always replacing them with other folk if I get the chance. I like the free energy they get since I'm always getting sapped on choices near the end of play. Is this recommended, does it depend on the ship or should I look into getting others (humans for pilot/engine, mantis/rock for boarding and zoltons for the rest with usually an engi as repair support is my usually tactic if I get the choice)
