    Playing during a plane flight?

    Posted: 26 Jul 2020 07:11 AM PDT

I have a 14, and then 6 hour flight coming up. These days I don't play that many games, mainly FTL and ITB.

Do you guys have any tips on making the game playable in an economy seat with a laptop?

I've been thinking to get a trackball for situations like this (no room for mousepad), curious if that's a good idea or not.

    thats very freakin’ hostile

I can't screw this up, right? Right?

So I'm hunting Ancestry on Hard and was a bit bummed when a decent Rock C run with LRS and four chances at Rock Homeworlds in Sectors 5-7 couldn't find them. But I restart and Sector 1 is like Christmas. Every encounter is dropping gear, outposts are handing me extra scrap, and shops all have great equipment. No extra crew yet, but I had enough scrap to buy my second shield bubble and still end up with this gear at the entry beacon of Sector 2. Note that's with 86 scrap left over.

I've never ever had this much gear potential so early in the game, even in Normal. The sector map isn't great for Ancestry, but I figure this start easily has the potential to be a 7000+ point game so I'll play it out regardless. So what's the best way to maximize this start? I'm thinking I push Boarding unless it seems completely impossible. Buy a decent crewmember early on if I find one (which I typically wouldn't do) and hunt for a Teleporter. Push engines a bit to make diving more manageable. I usually wouldn't force a particular strategy from the outset like that, but even if I didn't upgrade my weapons system at all I could fight through Sector 4 already. And if I can get a boarding ship rolling - which shouldn't be all that hard - that would just snowball even further. And if I happen to luck into Ancestry too and get a bonus sector? That could be completely ridiculous.

Any advice or ideas are appreciated.

In your opinion, should the mods allow posts that are just pictures of hostile sector maps to continue?

Note that I am not a mod, and this post is in no official capacity. I would love if mods took inspiration from it though...

    Warcrimes simulator

With literally nothing else to do thanks to covid, I've been going for full completion of all ships on normal, this was my first run with Zoltan C, of what I expected to be many. This was by far my luckiest run in terms of free stuff. The only things I bought were the Combat II drone, a drone recovery arm, and long range scanners (plus the extra systems). Everything else came free (crew included), mostly in Sector 3. I think I got like 7 free weapons total, mostly ions. This allowed me to get past the BS initial reactor upgrades since I didn't need to ever buy a weapon. Decided to roll with the all-ion meme, despite my usual dislike for the ion-drone combo. Bought the combat II solely to speed things up, could've been fine without it. Typical encounter would be to build up a nice ion buffer on shields then release the drones to do their thing. I maxed my sensors so I could keep track of the ion buffers, turns out the max cumulative ion damage is 5, doesn't get higher, which kinda sucks cause I could've gone arbitrarily high with this loadout. Flagship was super chill, high evasion kept my Zoltan shield alive for a while to soak up the stray missile, then cloaking to prevent any after I lost the shield. Got a bit lucky on Phase 2, one of my ions trapped the defense drone long enough to get hacking deployed on piloting (no cheesing the on-off trick here). This was my first no-damage win against the flagship that didn't rely on hull drones.
