[silly showerthought] I would be okay for another delay on cyberpunk 2077 for FTL 2

If I was asked to get a ftl2 but in return of another long ass delay for cyberpunk2077, I'd be definitely okay for the delay.

I'm also glad that FTL didn't turned into a franchise. I'm loving the fact that the game aged like a wine. I'm done with the end game stuff but I can always install it back (do that every year) and play for a while. Every single time I get sucked in.

But my inner greedy monkey always desires for more consumerism and I just can't suppress the fact that I'd be immediately slamming my wallet on my monitor for FTL2.

After 8 years and 922 hours, finally beat hard with all ships

After 8 years and 922 hours, finally beat hard with all ships

    Never thought I'd do it!

First hard victory was with stealth A back in 2014, 27/28 was stealth B (BOOOO) and last one was Mantis C. Got a pre-igniter on the first jump! And it turns out 2 x heavy laser 2 with boarders and a pre-igniter is pretty damn strong!

Here are some random things I learned about the game:

    • 30 hull goes a long way early game. You can recover from a lot of disasters in sector 1, barring the insta-death terrible luck beacons than happen every now and then. Plenty of times I'd suffer through a terrible fight and find that I'd only lost a third hull.
    • Stealth A is crazy strong despite having no shields, that really surprised me
    • Stealth C is not quite as suicidal as it seems and for me is leagues ahead of the awful stealth B
    • Stealth B is utter trash, but possible to win with - somewhere along the way I realised that when you unlock cloaking 3, you don't cloak to avoid enemy volleys - you cloak at the very start of the fight to avoid all damage a lot of the time. Still hate it! Also the small medbay and its positioning actually turn out to be a big weakness, so this junk heap is really vulnerable to boarders. Yeah you can snowball with it but that's true for any ship. Screw stealth B
    • Engi B isn't great, but not that bad IMO. The repair drones are surprisingly useful. The AP drone keeps you alive until you have more crew. It's one of the ships best able to make use of a decent 2 power weapon. Early flak 1 or BL2 is huge for any ship but instantly turns Engi B into an unholy terror, with no extra investment required because it replaces heavy ion. Not only that, but it's one of the best ships to hit a sector 1 store with because you have so much junk to sell. You get to buy any 1-3 power weapon from jump 1 if you really want, by selling everything. But with just 1 crew it's a good idea to keep the AP drone and a system repair drone. If you do that you only need 18 more scrap for a BL2 or 3 more scrap for a flak 1. My favourite garbage tier ship and WAY ahead of the stupid stealth B. Somehow my highest score is with Engi B!
    • Screw rock ships. Ugh. Having a crew of just rocks is the worst, probably my least favourite race when that's all I have, purely because of their movement speed. It's gotten me killed so many times! I hate rock movement speed more than rock A's missile weapons. Not as bad on non rock ships or with a diverse crew though.
    • Zoltan in practice are annoying to work with because of the risk of depowering stuff, it's happened more times than I can count. Very tricky to micro. I just tend to put my first zoltan in engines and never move him from there. Their ships are awesome though (or at least 2 out of 3 are)
    • Ion stunner is surprisingly useful early game? Its cooldown gives it great synergy with a lot of popular weapons and can be added to make a lot of early loadouts really strong. It's cheap, 1 power and versatile - depending on the timing you can either remove a shield layer for the rest of your volley, or stun someone right after breaking a system to give yourself more time (great vs enemy engi). Plus it can ionise systems if you really need it to. This little guy helped me get a lot out of kestrel C, which I think is underrated
    • Most hated events: getting boarded while an ASB fires at you, getting boarded by mantis and having to fight off mantis while fighting a mantis ship that beams over more mantis, rock live mine, and ESPECIALLY fighting a zoltan ship while getting boarded by the 4 man zoltan death squad
    • Learning about abducting phase 3 flagship crew is the single thing that improved my win rate against the flagship the most
    • Heavy laser 1 wins games!!
    • No matter how OP you think your ship is, the game can still find a way to absolutely ruin your day

I'm pretty sure this is both my most loved and most hated game of all time

Curious about defense drone 2 usability with zoltan shield.

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 10:45 PM PST

So normally def drone 2 is passed. Ability to shoot down normal shots isn't as good when those shots are stopped by engines+shields, and def drone 1 targeting only dangerous missiles is much better for minimizing damage. However, zoltan shield changes that. Since it stops any shots, to save it for longer would make sense to stop maximum amount of projectiles of any type (especially ion). Even better if enemy doesn't fire in volleys and drone recharges before next weapon fires. I think I got something like this in A+ on Zoltan cruiser at least once: innate zoltan shield, 2-power charger drone, slow/cheap version of def drone 2, was planning on getting artillery too before bad fight. But I'm curious how viable such build would be in vanilla, if one decided standard gunship is too boring. Perhaps on Fed cruiser for artillery, or Stealth C for 2-power charger drone.

My experience with build orders for subsystems as progressed from a newbie, experienced and veteran player.

    Piloting

Newbie: What does piloting do? I'll upgrade it bc I have free scrap.

Experienced: Upgrade it to level 2 after shields 4 and engines 3. It's only 20 scrap.

Veteran: Upgrade it to lvl 2 after my first system purchase (sector 3/4). If I see a nebula sector in sector 2 I'm way more tempted to upgrade it, ditto if I see an ion storm event coming up with LRS.

    Sensors

Newbie: Oh this gives me vision on the enemy! I should upgrade it immediately!

Experienced: I'll upgrade it to lvl 2 for the blue events and bc it lets me see crew. I'll max it out later to see how fast their enemies can fire their weapons.

Veteran: Fuck sensors it's a luxury.

    Doors

Newbie: What are doors? Why are the mantis boarders so OP?

Experienced: Get lvl 2 doors in sector 2/3. They help so much against boarders.

Veteran: Only get doors early on Engi B or Zoltan B. I want to get it early for Stealth B too but can't. Rush lvl 2 if you see late game abandoned sector or a zoltan sector coming up. Otherwise only get it after my second system (sector 5/6). They're kind of a luxury.

    Backup Battery

Newbie: What is backup battery I just turned on Advanced edition.

Experienced: Usually don't get it, sometimes get it bc I have too much scrap and play around with it. Upgrade it too bc I have extra scrap.

Veteran: Get it as a consolation prize when you're hunting for your second/third system. Don't upgrade unless I'm overflowing in scrap and are around my last set of reactor upgrades.

Which sector is more likely to have a Rock ship, Uncharted Nebula or Engi Controlled?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 07:27 PM PST

I'm going for my last Crystal achievement and I'm literally sitting at 9 defeated Rock ships for the run, and these two suckers are my choices for Sector 7.

It's my understanding that Uncharted will have more auto ships than anything else, but I don't know if Rock pirates are any more likely to show in Engi...

How do I find the rock homeworld?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 05:23 PM PST

I know the rock homeworld is in sectors 7-8, but... I have 60 hours of FTL under my belt, and even after several DOZEN runs specifically looking for the rock homeworld, I have never been able to even find it to begin with, not even once. Does this sector even exist?

    Tips for Engi A?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 05:41 PM PST

I've beat the flagship on normal with Kestrel A and have moved onto the Engi cruiser. I'm at a loss with what to do with this ship. Offensively, should I be focusing on drones or weapons? With just the combat drone I already find myself low on drone parts. To use good weapon means investing a ton into weapons and I feel like the net result is just a weaker gunship. I'm unable to quickly take out weapons and eat a lot of missile hits. I also run into a fair bit of anti-drones. I passed over a hull laser for the charge laser reasoning that the lower charge and ability to fire a single shot will help me once there is 1/0 Shields left, was that the right choice? I probably should have kept the ion stunner to stack with the heavy ion?

Basically, how do I play this ship offensively? What weapons/drones do I aim for? What do I target and why? When should I use/not use drones?
