FINALLY! Made all achievements in Hard mode!

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 05:15 AM PST

A little close, had 8 crew but due to the phase burst thing having pinpoint accuracy and somehow not missing twice things got hectic. Normal

First Fed A win (Normal) with 1 HP remaining. Was so close to giving up!

My god. What a run this was.

Bought a teleporter around sector 2. Things were looking good after a rough patch where I couldn't find any decent weapons. I'd recruited another mantis to board with and levelled them both to max fighting skill over the course of a few sectors. I was pillaging mass amounts of scrap from every ship I was encountering. My two mantis were feared death machines. At the time, I was saving up for LV4 shields before the flagship fight. I also picked up hacking early, which helped immensely with boarding.

Then, I encounter a feeble rebel rigger in sector 6. No problem, I thought. Sent my mantis death machines in, took out their clonebay with Breach Bomb II. Hit their weapons with everything I had and managed to completely disable them. Their ship HP was quite low, so I stopped my weapons from firing whilst mopping up the rest of their crew, so I wouldn't kill my mantis. But I made a fatal mistake. A monstrous mistake. I forgot to disable my artillery. Before I could even grasp what was happening, it was too late for my mantis. My noble mantis were eviscerated and went down with the enemy ship before I had time to press the space bar. So, very, very frustrating. I'll never forget their sacrifice.

I was annoyed and close to quitting. However, I continued my journey. Picked up another Flak I and levelled weapons to max. I thought it was going to be pointless as i'd thought i'd be overwhelmed by boarders / MC in flagship phase 3 anyway. But the first two phases went really well. I took a proper beating in phase 3 but ultimately managed to win.

So, I honestly think I won because of a few things. Someone on here recommended to upgrade your engines to LV5. So, that in combination with my engi max skilled on engines, gave me a decent evasion rate which compensated for my LV3 shields. One stray shot from the laser gun almost finished me off but it missed, thank christ. Had a max level pilot too. Breach Bomb II is a great weapon IMO, 3 system damage and a breach for 2 power. This helped me board ships while my mantis were alive and also helped to keep flagship shields and weapons down. Having hacking LV3 and two Flak I's as well as BL2 also helped immensely.

Back at it with more runs. A fun build for a slug ship

Do you have any advice on getting more blue events to pop up?

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 10:46 AM PST

Title, pretty much. I'm getting pissed off at this game because every single run I do always gets me to the Flagship and on Phase 2 I end up getting obliterated because of the weapon RNG or because my hull is at low levels. I've read that having an upgraded medbay/piloting helps? I am already used to a lot of the tips I have seen in videos (Such as venting every room except medbay during boarding if possible, firing every weapon at once, conserving my power (powering down medbay to power different things while fighting)

Also a P.S: I'm playing on basic edition to get used to the basics, which I have done by now I think. Is Advanced Edition worth it? And if so, is it easier to win on Advanced in your opinion?

What happens when an enemy jumps away with my crew still on it?

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 03:09 AM PST

So basically I was playing against the flagship, and I had 2 of my Mantis on destroying the shields. However, the flagship suddenly jumped and the mantis.. disappeared? What happens to crew in situations like this? Is there any way to get them back?

I need help beating this game on normal

    Posted: 14 Dec 2020 06:38 AM PST

I refuse to play on easy because winning on that would just be cheating in my book and I am stubborn. do I scrooge missles whenever I can, what general advice do you have to give? I know getting 2 shields is usually worth it but I feel like that stops being useful once enemy ships start having 3 or 4 burst lasers. I also refuse to use different ship types or advanced content till beat the game. I have gotten to the flagships drone phase but then I can't do anything to the damn thing because of those stupid drones. lastly is there a blue text solution for every event in the game because I refuse to deal with those spiders otherwise lost to many men to those damn things.
