Posted: 23 Mar 2021 12:39 AM PDT Hi all Just unlocked Mantis ship A and tried it for a couple of rounds. Is there any tips for this ship? The ship design is terrible in my playthrough so far 1. starting crew of 4 but 2 will be dedicated to boarding due to bad starting weapon (1 shot laser). The bomb doesn't count as you need to use it with boarding for maximum effect
Is there any tips or strat im missing for mantis A? Currently it seems to me that i should play 2 sector, and restart if i couldn't find any of the desired basic upgrade (2 hits or more weapon, sensor, slug) [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Mar 2021 05:24 PM PDT Yes - we all know FTL is a highly skill-based game where luck and RNG play a role, but being a great player will usually allow you to overcome to bad luck. But... let's talk about the crazy RNG regarding... RFS hacking - yes, I know you can jump away at least once to "try again", but let's be real. When the RFS hacks your doors or sensors, it's hardly noticeable. But when they hit sheilds or weapons, it turns an easy fight into a hard one, or a hard fight into one that is nearly impossible. This isn't a complaint - more just an observation that makes me wonder how much that one single element of RNG affects the expected win rates for players. [link] [comments]

Posted: 22 Mar 2021 03:03 PM PDT Game version 1.6.17 iOS version 9.3.5 (latest version for this model iPad 2) 8 GB free, no other apps running No sideloading or jailbreaking Straight vanilla App Store download FTL for iPad crashes shortly after starting up. It'll crash on the hangar, when jumping, and during a battle. Usually the crash is after a (any) button click but that could be coincidental, since it will also crash when idling in pause. The game always crashes at some point within ten minutes of play. Resetting or hard power-down doesn't help. This happens in Airplane Mode as well (to test if Game Center is involved), with sound and/or music turned completely off in menus (to test sound system). I was looking forward to playing this and getting some use out of my old big screen iPad. [link] [comments]
Almost beat the game on normal for the first time! Posted: 22 Mar 2021 02:15 PM PDT Some background, today I've had a ton of amazing runs. I've beat the game on easy four times, and two of those were today! I beat it in Zoltan A, got to Phase 2 with Kestrel A and got all Kestrel achievements (I was really surprised the run made it that far), and then beat it with the newly unlocked Kestrel B. So I felt really confident, and tried to go for normal difficulty. The run's early game really only had one thing going for it, is that I managed to get a LOT of fuel for cheap early on and never had to buy more. The only good thing I found in stores early on was a Halberd beam. The other weapons I came across throughout the run were all utterly trash, so all the way until sector 7 I was running with a Halberd and 3 basic lasers. However, because I wasn't spending much on weapons, I was able to get a lot of systems - I had hacking, mind control, cloaking, and backup battery, although none of them ever got to level 3 (Doors was maxed tho, not the greatest prioritization but I kinda needed it in some situations). I now finally appreciate the utility of mind control (I had kinda dismissed it before then) as I absolutely needed it to reduce dodge so I could get through shields. So in sector 7, I come across two stores I knew were going to make or break the run. I needed better weapons if I was going to win. Three basics and a halberd was not enough. Well, I kinda got better weapons from the first store, but not very good ones. I got a hull missile and a heavy laser, which is at least somewhat better. Still not stellar. However, at store number two I managed to pick up a pre-igniter! Now I at least had a chance. Going into sector 8, I had to fight a ship (took 3-4 damage, didn't seem like much but may have saved me later) and couldn't find a repair place. I don't think I took a single point of damage in phase 1, but my phase 2 went really wrong for some reason. I was at 10hp, mainly because fires had taken down shields significantly (and I only had 3 shield bars). I knew I probably wouldn't win phase 3 in my state, so I chanced it and tried to find a store. At the nearest jump I had to fight a ship but I didn't take any damage. No luck for any connected stores. It was now or never, no ands ifs or buts. Right away they mind controlled my pilot. Not good. I had forgotten that you can counter-mind control, otherwise I would have tried. Dodge was now zero (really should have invested in piloting levels or a slug crewmember) and to top it off I had forgotten about the zoltan shield. It ended up taking three volleys of my weapons to get through (thanks to some good dodging on their part) and in that time they had focused all fire and boarding on piloting. Not only was it mind controlled, it was also broken and de-oxygenated. They also managed to take out one of my two mantis. They got a missile volley off, and because it appeared to be going towards important things, I cloaked. It didn't do any good, though, many of them still hit (piloting was still down) and now I didn't have a cloak left to avoid the super weapon. I now had 7 hp. The super weapon fires 8 shots, and I have 3 shields, so I should still have 2hp left at the end, right? Nope, their lasers took out my shields at the right time. Somehow I pulled through with 1hp left. Cloaking was nearly cooled down, and I was working on repairing stuff (although piloting was still behind a bunch of enemies and oxygenless rooms) and I had finally gotten through the Zoltan shield. I launched a hacking drone, mind controlled the pilot, and prepared to fire my halberd beam. However, right before cloaking could get repaired, they got a missile volley off, and goodbye ship :( By far the closest I've ever come to winning on normal. I hate this game, and I love this game.
