Nine years on, I still haven't unlocked Crystal A Posted: 08 Aug 2021 11:48 PM PDT I picked this game up in (I think) a humble indie bundle waaaaaaay back when they were still numbering them. I played it a good deal, but never made it very far in unlocks or achievements - unlocked Engi A, Fed A, Stealth A, Zoltan A, and Kestrel and Engi B. I only racked up victories with Kestrel A and Engi B. After a while, I gave up and put the game down and sort of forgot about it. I picked it up again during the pandemic, and I wiped the save so I could unlock all the achievements on Hard. I found it to be a lot more fun this time around - I figured out the mechanics a little better. On my last pass, I understood the micro pretty well (timing volleys, managing systems, venting, etc.) but my macro game wasn't so good - I didn't really get how to save scrap, plan my build, choose sectors which would be better for my current build, and I also, like, never bought systems unless I was going for a specific achievement. I've pretty quickly unlocked nearly every ship layout (still missing Lanius B, a few C ships), and I've got every non-ship-specific achievement with the exception of "Boarding Objective Successful" and the one you get for unlocking every ship layout A. Which brings me to the pain in the ass - I still have not unlocked the Ancestry achievement or Crystal A! I was trying to unlock it with Rock B, and I had some decent luck, but nothing ever seemed to quite align right - I'd get to the Ancient Device with a stasis pod, but without having found a Zoltan research facility to open it. Or I'd get Ruwen and then reach a fork only to find my sector choices were Abandoned Sector or Rebel Stronghold - no Rock Homeworlds to even find the Ancient Device in! I eventually unlocked Rock C, and I've been playing it the past two days, racking up a few victories, but having no dice finding that Ancient Device. I'm not sure what hurts worse - getting blown up just before reaching the Rock Homeworlds, or clearing the Rock Homeworlds without finding the Ancient Device (so far I'm 0 for 3 in clearing the Homeworlds without hitting the Ancient Device event). And so here I am - I've had this game for 9 dang years. I've gotten two diplomas and lost the hair on my head in that time, and I still don't have the gosh darn Crystal A. But I'm determined - I will keep trying, eventually I'm bound to get it, and while I feel at this point it would probably be easier (or at least less monotonous) to focus on racking up V's on every other layout to unlock it, I just can't bring myself to do it - I'm going to want to get Ancestry eventually, and I've done every other unlock quest - better to kill two birds with one stone. I'm not seeking advice or anything, I've already found plenty using Google. Just thought I'd share my experience because I thought it was kind of funny, it's been really nice picking the game back up and finding out it still has an active community. [link] [comments]

Amusing/annoying loss of a crewman Posted: 08 Aug 2021 08:42 AM PDT Lost one of my crew last night, my guy on shields as a matter of fact, to the plague station event. Didn't cost me the run by itself, but definitely didn't help either. The 'amusing' part is that the crewman was an Engi, who are supposed to be immune to conventional diseases. You think maybe he got tired of chilling with humans, and somehow faked vomiting as a pretense to leave? [link] [comments]
Just stopped the Flagship with Kestrel A Posted: 08 Aug 2021 01:30 PM PDT All it took was an early Scrap Recovery Arm, and eventually pulling together 4 BLII's. Teleporters saw a lot of use, but I lost 2 boarding crews (4 crewmen total, 1 rock 1 mantis 2 human) before sector 8 so it was useless for the Flagship. Apologies for no screenshot. Not sure the best way to go about taking them. Any opinions/thoughts? [link] [comments]

Momus Recycle Missile is Awesome Posted: 08 Aug 2021 09:10 PM PDT if u have momus missile equiped, and other 3 weapons that uses bombs and missiles, even if the missile counter is at number 1, it will continue to feed missiles to all the weapons. TLDR: Momus Missile is an infinity PERK. Why all of the sudden not many version of FTL M? it was so active and suddenly a lull for months? Burnout? Thanks for the awesome game, this should have been FTL2. Anyway, what happened to the weapon system that could be combined with other perks? forgot the name of that Weapons Manufacturer [link] [comments]

Is it me or do ennemies get two shields immediately after you get two? Posted: 08 Aug 2021 07:09 AM PDT Feels really coincidental but every time I upgrade my shields the enemy ships seemingly get the same upgrade immediately after? is this something coded in the game or am I just being paranoid? Posted: 08 Aug 2021 11:37 AM PDT I played FTL multiverse a bunch and I came up with my own species and weapons, but I am new to modding and wanted to ask where I can find more information on how to mod FTL apart from the official guide and present the idea here in the case someone with modding skills reads this and is interested to help. Prepare for a wall of text though. Background: The Dracos are wise ancient lizard people living in their own universe (unique universe in the multiverse where they have become the dominant species and conquered a lot of galaxies) and thus are only rarely encountered in different universes than their own(they have multiverse drives so some can be encountered outside their own universe). The Zoltans were the first to have discovered the Dracos and thus the player can get coordinates on how to reach the Dracos through a Zoltan scholar, which the player may stumble upon in his run(the Draco universe sector which is not on the map). Alternatively the player can get the coordinates from the holy order of the Rockmen if the player agrees to help them to expand their realm. Abilities: Dracos can't regulate their temperature and so take more damage from fire(or the cold in scenarios) and are slightly worse at repairs due to them not being able to hold repair items as easily(only very slightly, not like Mantis). On the other hand Dracos have a strong ability to remain concious and focused(all Dracos can't be stunned or mind controlled) and through their veins, alongside blood, runs electricity which can be used to make them tougher(strength and health upgrade) or to power rooms(through lab upgrades). Military Dracos on the other hand are even worse with repairs(like Mantis) since they are more combat oriented and deal less with electronics but through their special scales and training and their unique breating system(which they all have but most non military Dracos don't use due to them being weak to fire) they take less damage opposed to more damage from fire and can even spit fire(active ability). Draco Engineers are better able to repair systems than their brethren(normal repair speed). However they also suffer from a weakness to fire. Draco Engineers learn weapons, shields, engines and repair slightly faster and are good at hacking(active ability that forces doors in their room to be closed or opened for a few seconds which overrides enemy hacking, also able to counter hacks/viruses in scenarios) Technology/Weapons: The Dracos prefer to use energized weapons (like energized Flaks for example) and have their own weapon type called plasma weapons. Plasma weapons, unlike other weapons, deal hull damage and/or system damage when they damage a shield, due to them overloading the shield system and electronics so much that they actually break the hardware and burn through cables so hot it actually damages the hull(also often has a slight chance to cause a fire due to this). Zoltan shields are the exception to this however since they are more sophisticated in their construction. Because these weapons are quite strong they usually require a lot of energy(almost no 1 energy bar weapons). Attitude: The Dracos usually keep to themselves since they have their own universe but also don't hesitate to fight should the need arise(they are more balanced between being hostile and friendly so it's pretty much a 50/50 if a Draco can be trusted unlike Slugs or Mantis which usually are more hostile or Zoltans which are mostly friendly). Dracos are in good relations with the Zoltans. The need for the military is due to conflicts with the Rockmen, especially the holy order due to them trying to claim territory within the Draco universe and a general rejection of any faith by the Dracos. I hope you found it an interesting read and I want to thank you in advance for any pointers for how to learn modding FTL. [link] [comments] |
