If the flagship hacking drone gets piloting? Posted: 01 Jan 2020 01:23 PM PST Hacking seems rare outside the flagship. I assume for regular enemies you have to prioritize hacking to get back any evasion or even jump away. What if you don't have the guns for the flagship with shields up (say you were depending on boarding, which takes a lot of time to kill everything in order)? I guess you just die? I only recently switched on Advanced Edition and it seems an unlucky hack onto piloting with the wrong build is game over PS: Defense drone 1 seems to shoot down 3-5 hacking drones in quick succession from the flagship but eventually one gets through, I've seen this twice now. Mantis Homeworlds or Zoltan Homeworlds. Which would you choose with Lanius B? Posted: 01 Jan 2020 06:37 PM PST I was playing Lanius B and I had an interesting decision to make for Sector 3. It was Mantis Homeworlds or Zoltan Homeworlds. I had the starting loadout plus upgrades, and a full crew, including 4 Mantis and a Zoltan. Which would you choose? [link] [comments]
When to increase difficulty / enabled advanced content? Posted: 01 Jan 2020 10:58 AM PST I finally bought FTL a few weeks ago and I'm pretty hooked. Full of misplaced confidence I started out on Normal difficulty and quickly realised I had a LOT to learn, so I switched to Easy to get to grips with the game's systems etc. Flash forward ~50 hours and I've got at least one victory on all the ships I've unlocked except the Stealth Cruiser (haven't unlocked Slug Cruiser yet), but they're all on Easy mode, with advanced content disabled. Now I'm starting to wonder what to do from here. I like playing games in a methodical way so my natural instinct is to get a win with every ship/layout on Easy, then enable advanced content (I've just about got the hang of the weapons/systems in the vanilla game now) and get some more Easy wins, then step up to Normal difficulty and take it from there. I realise there's not really any right or wrong way to advance through the game, but I'm interested to hear what other players have done as they gained experience in FTL. Am I spending too long in the Easy mode kiddy pool? Should I start learning the advanced content ropes asap? Do you ever go back to playing Easy / Normal when you've got the hang of Hard? Posted: 01 Jan 2020 02:25 PM PST I used to play FTL a lot, both before and after the Advanced Edition came out. Just recently I returned to the game after a long absence of many years. I reset my save and started from scratch. Fast forward 22 hours. At this point, I had unlocked all ships but the Mantis Cruiser and the Crystal Cruiser. After getting the rock vessel (third-to-last unlock), I made a beeline for the C version so I could attempt the easier Crystal unlock. I know, I'm a filthy casual, but I never managed to proceed past the stasis pod across my 252 games before the save wipe. Forgive me for wanting to play with this fabled ship at least once in my lifetime. In my defense, though, I did not name the crystal Ruwen. Keep at least some of the challenge, you know? After an unfortunate incident where I lost my crystaline man with a disabled clone bay (curse you, scripted events!), I began a second attempt. I was faced with a very unfortunate map layout - there was a single red sector past the 5th, one of the 7th sectors. I figured I wouldn't be getting Rock Homeworlds this time around, but I still pressed on. There were a couple of early reds that might very well be the Mantis Homeworlds. I was lucky; sector 3 was Mantis Homeworlds. Of course, it was far too early, but I figured I might be able to find enough scrap to upgrade my systems, and if I found Kazaaak before that, I could escape and find the required resources. I explored the entire sector and found absolutely nothing. Tons of dead jumps. Well, that is, until the very end, when the cheeky bastard decided to show up just to tease me. I didn't have a single one of the required system upgrades, and the rebels were nearly upon me, so all I could do was sigh and kill him for scrap before jumping to the exit. Frustrated, I wrote off the run as a failure, but moved on just for the heck of it. I ended up finding a pre-igniter, a reloader, hacking, a burst laser III (I know it's worse than II, but with the pre-igniter it worked wonders), a flak II and enough scrap to upgrade everything I could ever need. I was completely overpowered, the most I've been since my return to the game - so much so, I actually felt I might have a chance against the Flagship, despite being pretty terrible at FTL. (I didn't win, becuase I'm bad, but I got pretty close. Wiped out phases 1 and 2 in seconds, but there weren't any repair stations nearby, so I couldn't outlive phase 3. Shame, but I'm happy nonetheless.) But that was not all. The 7th sector was Rock Homeworlds. Baffled by my luck, I investigated as many beacons as I could, but I found nothing. Extremely annoyed, I made it to the exit. The rebels were close and would take the exit in no time, but I figured I could survive a round against the fleet in my overpowered vessel. I decided to try three more jumps, then go right back to the exit. A store. And then another store. And then the ancient device. So that's how I ended up with this picture. It's not as unbelievable as it would've been before Rock C existed, but... yeah. Even the Crystal Cruiser, man. Even that was easier to unlock than the damned Mantis. Screw you, Kazaaak. Seriously. Why do you require super healing? My guys can stand in the vacuum of space, get mauled to death by men of rock, sliced by razor-sharp Mantis claws, burn to ashes, blow up to bits and get eaten by giant space spiders (no joke!), and yet the basic clone bay does the job just fine! So how come it doesn't work for... whatever left you "slumped in a corner dying", even though you didn't participate in the fight!? And the sensors, why do you require level 3 sensors!? Level 2 suffices to see the inside of enemy ships! What kind of "corner" is this, that is apparently beyond the capabilities of lesser sensors?! Why are you so needy, Kazaaak!?!? *Why!?!?!?!?!?*** Phew... anyway, that's been story/rant time. Thank you for your time. [link] [comments]
Can 2 rocks + fire win a fight in a working med bay? Posted: 01 Jan 2020 03:07 AM PST I notice Rock B starts with fire bomb so am curious if it can help board med bay right away. I think all player ships have 3 free tiles for med bay, and only the flagship has 4. All minor enemies have 2 med bay tiles IIRC. Enemy med bay is healing, say 1 fire tile to start (or does fire bomb usually create 2 fires?). Can rocks win that fight? It would come down to:
If it won't work, i'm curious if you guys still fire bomb med bay to slow healing, board piloting, and switch ship to lasers to destroy the med bay as they're dousing flames. Seems like more steps than just laser firing on med bay from the start though [link] [comments] |
