Walked away from my PC to let the Oxygen refill in my ship. Pressed the wrong button apparently.

Should I make adjustments before the big fight?

I got super lucky and finally got my first win!

    Winning configuration

I had my final crew in sector 2 and got the crew teleporter in sector 4. I got loads of scrap. At one point, I had about 500 unspent scrap. Most of that due to extraordinary luck. I had fully upgraded shields and engines by sector 7. Before this run, I was just barely holding together during the final fight.

    Equipment before second stage

I had stumbled upon some great gear by the time I got to sector 7. I had a hull repair drone to repair my ship between stages. I had three combat drones for the first stage. I had the anti-drone for the second stage. I had a defence II drone for the final stage. I got so much gear that I found myself rejecting a lot of free weapons and crew.

    Ship before third stage

I had a full hull by the time I entered the third stage thanks to the repair drone.

    Stats after win

I got almost 2000 scrap to spend! Lana was an absolute killing machine. I think I read somewhere that killing the enemy crew will give you a better scrap reward than destroying their ship. This can be difficult and risky. In a different run, the enemy jumped away while my crew was on board so I lost my two mantises!

It hurts my pride to say that I won because I got lucky but it wasn't all luck. This post was very helpful for choosing sectors. I don't remember where I read this (probably a post on this subreddit somewhere), but a great strategy for taking out the flagship's weapons is to send a boarding party into those little isolated weapons rooms. I took out the missiles first and the beam last.

    This game is awesome!

GUYS I DID IT!!! MY FIRST WIN! THOUGHT I HAD LOST IT BUT I GOT THE W!!

The most OP run I've ever had. Got every system and had almost everything maxed, the flagship never even touched me. Going back to easy after getting used to normal difficulty is nuts

When to Progress to Advanced Edition Content

    Posted: 11 Jan 2020 05:39 AM PST

    Hi,

I've recently picked up FTL again and I've been trying to beat east mode and unlock all the ships. I'm currently trying to win with the rock ship so have almost unlocked the stealth ship. When should I start advanced edition? Is it that much harder? Is it more fun? Thank you

    Frustrated, feel like giving up.

I just can't seem to beat this game on Normal difficulty, to the point where I'm feeling mystified at the fact that any of you HAVE been able to do this.

My most recent run went something like this -

I thought i was doing fine. I got through the first couple of sectors ok. Here's where I was entering the beacon where it all ended - i think this was in the third sector:

    • two shield bubbles
    • four FTL bars
    • five crew
    • Reverse Ion augmentation
    • long-range scanners augmentation
    • 3-4 reactor bar increase

So not an absolute killer run but again i felt like i was doing fine.

I had taken some hull damage at the exit beacon from the previous sector. After defeating the enemy ship I chose a "Zoltan Homeworlds" sector on the map, and made the jump. Fortunately i had a store beacon available right off, so i went to it first, that's where i purchased the augmentations and got my hull back up into the green. So i was feeling pretty good at this point.

I got ready to jump to another beacon, and chose one that indicated he presence o f an enemy ship. So i made the jump. And here's where it all went to complete hell.

The ship i encountered at the beacon had:

    1. two shield bubbles, plus a Zoltan shield
    2. Mind control
    3. Boarding

I could go into the gory details of how it all went down, but i think you can imagine. I couldn't keep my shields up, i was getting fired on without even having gotten their Zoltan shield down, my captain was being mind-controlled, i had boarders attacking my crew...

I have no idea how i could have survived this beacon.

My other choice besides Zoltan Homeworlds was (I think) a Nebula sector, which I've had bad and good experiences with, but I chose the Zoltan sector because I thought, the more enemies, the more scrap, the more battle-ready I'll be going forward.

But the inglorious end was just one more in what seems to be an endless string of defeats and ever more frustration and bewilderment at the fact that anyone is able to beat this game.

I'm mostly just venting here. I know you all will have a lot of advice etc. but I dunno. I don't want to give up on this game but that's about where I'm at with it.

    No ports to other playforms?

    Posted: 11 Jan 2020 02:48 PM PST

This game is probably one of my favourite games of all time but it surprises me how little coverage it got, only a PC and iOS port. I'm glad Into the Breach is doing a little bit better but I wouldn't mind this game to be ported to Android or Nintendo Switch.

Any updates? Do developers even read this reddit?
