    Made the mistake of selling my weapons early to keep up, and when I got ahead of the curve, shops had stopped selling weapons that did damage so I had to bite the bullet and kill the flagship crew in the first phase. I never even got through the zoltan shield lmao, definitely saved the run by lucking out and getting the zoltan bypass

    Seeking Opinion: double flak plus heavy laser or single flak and double heavy laser

    I'm on a really great Engi B run and I bought a flak and a heavy laser, then got a free flak from an event.

    In a three shield ship what do you guys think is better? Two flak 1s and a single heavy laser or a single flak and two heavy lasers?

    I'm in sector 3 right now. Long term I think I'd like to get a halberd or hull beam for the flagship fight. I'm a big fan of flak plus beam weapons. And hacking. Always hacking.

    My personal opinion is that one flak plus two heavy lasers is more flexible for at least the next couple sectors but I'm interested in other opinions.

    Playing hard mode.

    Edit: I did end up winning this run. I used a single flak through most of the game, and two flaks plus heavy laser in sector 8. I was worried I'd be underpowered with a 5 power weapon system, but it was fine. I had some bad misses in phase 2 so I took a crapload of damage. I was worried I wouldn't make it through phase 3, but I got a lucky Zoltan shield pickup in sector 6. That didn't necessarily save my run on its own, but after I was stupid and jumped away from a store before purchasing the HL2 that was on sale there, it definitely saved my ass because I could have had Flak + HL1 + HL2 as a final weapon system and I just whiffed on it. I had the scrap, just got distracted and never clicked buy.

    phase 3 wasn't too bad though, once I got the missile offline it was super easy. And the nice thing about double flak and heavy laser is that you get tons of crew kills between the constant hitting, fires and breaches in that shield room. I got boarded by only 2 enemy crew.
