Watch me lose 10 hull points in three seconds because I thought hacking, repairing, upgrading, and thinking are for losers

I made a pixel art Osprey! I think it is good, what do you think tho?

Took 0 damage on stage 1 and 2. Stage 3 is hard without doors, vents, etc. Almost lost lol

Satisfaction: got rid of the Flagship's supershield before he could get rid of mine. Plus destroyed his teleporter beforehand.

    Kestrel C. Boarders. How?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 01:21 PM PDT

I know it's generally agreed upon that the Kestrel C is not great, but the biggest challenge with it, to me, seems to be dealing with boarders. It seems to be screwed on just about every axis with them:

    - Horrible venting setup. Your systems are either so far away from the external airlocks that it takes forever to reach the boarders even with oxygen off, or in the case of engines, in the same room as the airlocks, meaning you either have to put your Lanius there or lose evasion every time boarders are there. (I know people say the Kestrel A has bad venting, but at least it has a buffer room between the engine and the outside.)

    - The clone bay. Fine for blue text or if you get a teleporter, but the rest of the time, it means you're only healing scratch damage, which probably isn't enough to offset the damage you are most likely taking from projectiles. This means that boarders are likely going to fight you at less than 100% health. (And if you did get cloned, with no skills.) And you were already at a disadvantage, because:

    - Lack of fighters. You have two humans who are probably occupied and might not be able to take two boarders, let alone four. You have a Lanius, but one Lanius cannot take four men even if the room is already vented, might not even be able to take two. If those four are not men but Rocks or Mantises you might as well just restart the game. And if your Lanius is on piloting, then the second it has to move, you've lost your evasion, which is a problem, because...

    - Throughout all of this you are dealing with the fact that you have the damage output of a potato. Unless you get a third weapon, you cannot keep the enemy's weapons down. If your ion misses, then you might not even be able to touch the enemy's weapons, period. Which means both your ship and crew will be taking lots and lots of damage, exacerbating the above and draining scrap on repairs.

    - This hasn't happened to me yet but I just know it will: if your clone bay gets hacked, it blocks off the whole corridor, so if your pilot is in danger, he's trapped at a time when cloning is down. (Kestrel B has this issue too, but at least not with cloning.)

Does anybody have any ideas as to how to deal with them? It's gotten to the point where if I see boarders in sector 1 or 2, I'm tempted to just quit.
