Posted: 21 May 2020 10:55 PM PDT Just a lonely Engi (yours truly--I'm always one of the crew members) piloting my craft (The Longshot). I died early on, but not before downloading my conscious mind into a hologram (aptly named Echo). A mantis joined up for about two battles before dying. Now, it's me (inside of Echo), another hologram from a defense automated ship, and two repair bots venturing forth against the Rebels (Normal difficulty). Failure or success, it's a pretty intriguing sci-fi story I'm creating for myself. [link] [comments]

Posted: 21 May 2020 07:30 PM PDT I've realized that I end up getting cloaking in...say... 95% of my successful runs. I just crave that "Gonna-kick-that-flagship's-ass-for-sure" feeling, especially in comparison to that "I-sure-hope-I-get-lucky-with-dodging" feeling. Is everybody else like this or should I start a 5-step program to get rid of that addiction? [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 May 2020 05:40 AM PDT I was doing a Slug C run. It was mid to late game and everything was going fine. I had lots of scrap, plus lots of stuff to sell, it was an Engi sector and I had obtained a Glaive for free, which I wasn't going to use anyways, I had a solid offensive build already. Then, because of my 200IQ play, I end up with 2 Hull points, how, you may ask? Through random events. That's right, I end up getting down to 2 HP because of random events, not fights. And then it happens: because of a dumb sector layout I end up with no fuel. I take out a couple ships unscathed, and then I have to face an elite fighter. On sector 7. With no fuel to run away. With two hull points. I had 40% dodge. Enemy weapons couldn't get me, save for a breach missile, luckily I had a Defense Drone. ASB fires at me twice, I dodge them both. Then the third ASB is about to fire. Elite fighter gets destroyed and I get my fuel. Just before ASB is about to hit I make it to the Last Stand. Store is right there at the first jump in sector 8. Hull gets fully repair. I end up defeating the RFS. [link] [comments]

Having immense problems with Mantis A early game Posted: 21 May 2020 12:01 PM PDT So I'm trying to win with every ship and am stuck on Mantis A, which is confusing because supposedly it is a good ship. I know it's a boarding ship but the boarding isn't the hard part. It's keeping the rest of the ship from going into a death spiral -- it seems to have little to no resilience against anything, and once one small thing happens everything seems to snowball in a way that isn't so much the case for other ships. Namely, there are so many things that can happen from jump one that are instant game overs (all of these assuming normal difficulty, in sector one before you have the ability to improve your ship): - If the enemy ever takes out your one weapon bar, you might as well restart. Game over, RIP game, have fun being absolutely helpless against everything. Your boarders are not faster than enemy damage. (Shields too, but to a lesser degree, because at least with no shields you can still take out the weapons.) And good luck having enough spare scrap to get that second bar -- boarding bonuses aren't THAT big at the beginning. - If you ever see a solar flare or otherwise have something start a fire, you might as well just restart. (It doesn't help that the venting layout is fine around piloting/engine but absolutely atrocious on the left side of the ship. Or that the solar flares don't stop after you win the battle, so your options are to get more solar flares or limp to possibly another battle with a death-spiraling ship.) - If you ever see an asteroid belt, there is a good chance you might need to restart, depending on what the asteroids hit and when. - If you see an auto-ship, you might have to restart, especially if it is in combination with an asteroid belt or solar flare. - If you ever see a Zoltan shield, you might as well restart because it takes so many of your shitty laser shots to even be able to do anything else, and that's assuming none of them miss, which will never happen. And all this time, the enemy has no such restriction and will happily destroy you. - If you ever run out of missiles, you might as well restart. Which, considering that you are nigh-on required to use at least one missile per fight and likely more (if they have weapons and a medbay/clone bay, if they repair their weapons), is likely to happen. I can see just needing more skill, but this feels more luck-based, literally just whether you're unlucky enough to get an event with no counter, which can happen from the very beginning. Posted: 21 May 2020 08:11 AM PDT It seems like the Touch Screen MOD from 2014 is outdated. https://subsetgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=26647 The SDL.dll file isn't in the FTL installation folder anymore. Does anyone know of a new way to enable touch screen support in the Steam version? [link] [comments]
