Went a little overboard with free training... Got caught up in the moment with the Auto-Assaults combat drone and Burst Laser I...

Mutually assured destruction still counts as a win! First Zoltan A win on normal!

Thats the best reward ive ever seen!

First time ever making it to the Flagship, thought I was about to steal victory with 1HP and then...

    Posted: 19 Jun 2020 06:40 PM PDT

    Shit.

Still, my previous best was Sector 6, this was my first time prioritising getting a teleporter and it made so much difference! Lots of lucky draws too, but all that extra scrap from taking ships without destroying them really adds up. This was on normal, which is all I've ever played (I'm new, 38 hours in game). This run I also managed to unlock Full Arsenal, On a Wing and a Prayer, and No Redshirts, which is a nice consolation prize. Just wish I'd known to take out the engines or bridge!

Looking for a long-term romp through FTL.

    Posted: 20 Jun 2020 02:01 AM PDT

Good day. Hope things are working out for you, dear reader, given the madness of today, and speaking of madness, I find myself digging deep into my games collection and pulling out this wonderful gem once again.

Now, granted I've only gotten so close to finishing the game once (and several hundred tries besides) back in the day, so I cant claim that I've truly finished finished the game, but at this point I'm looking for something new with FTL (even after the 3 runs I just had today) and remembered that there's mods for this game.

So I went ahead, grabbed the slipstream mod manager, and then...

... completely blanked out on the next step. I have no idea which mods are great.

Guess I might as well list what I'm lookin for, given that it'll save time:

    • The general community mods/fixes of course, cant forget those. I'm sure there are a couple out there. Even stuff that I'd argue should be in game like rudimentary crew AI who know to seal doors in their room if needed, etc.

    • The rogue-like nature of FTL is great and all, but I always found its start-to-end gameplay loop limiting, to an extent. I remember the hours of fun I had extending games such as Sid Meier's Pirates!, XCOM, Freelancer, Privateer, and always wished I could do the same to many games that have fallen onto my hands, FTL included. I'm sure there's a mod out there that adds an endless/open world mode maybe? Maybe even a build-up-your-faction thing too?

    • Of course, new stuff is new stuff. Anything that adds new ships/weapons/enemies is certainly fair game. Oh, anything that adds the capability to build/modify ships you fly mid-run?

I'm sure more will come to mind if I can think of more, but that's all that comes to me as I post this.

One of my goofiest run in normal, welcome the zoltan/engi boarding ship cuz all my mantis died!

since i couldn't find any trace of an pirate symbol, i've made one from the ship themself !

Finally beat the game on normal!

    Posted: 19 Jun 2020 03:51 AM PDT

Without the additional content, with Nesasio (stealth A)

And this is after once before beating the flagship and then exploding myself, getting a "game over" instead of victory. (cmon, I gave my life for the federation, it was still a victory!)

I relied on Breach II to bring down shields and then pound with Dual Lasers and Pike Beam but my bucketload of rockets all went away in the first two phases of the fight.

The last fight lasted many hours since I could only penetrate 3 shields with Dual Lasers and an Attack Drone and the ship had 4.

My "genius" strategy was teleporting a couple of "fighters" aboard that ship and then... well, nothing.

I was stupid enough to kill my real fighters with a Pike Beam so I had to teleport those two as many times as it was needed for them to gain top fighting skills.

This was enough for them to fight the 2 remaining crew members and then damage the shields by one before they came back. With some luck and timing Dual Lasers + drone would bring all three shields down just enough for the beam to do partial damage.

Oh and my fighters would often get trapped by the zoltan shields, so I had to micromanage them, have them quickly enter and exit rooms to trigger the chase animation instead of them being shot at.

Now imagine hours of that :)

As it turns out, Mantis A was really easy; the stupid flagship, of course, took out the teleporter start of stage 3 though ... Maybe time to start playing on Hard. First time I really got mind control to work for me to de-Lantis their ships.

TIL you can select multiple crew by drag selection on the list on the left...

    Posted: 19 Jun 2020 10:34 AM PDT

...instead of only being able to drag select over actual crewmembers. Well over 2000 hours on record and I only found this out by accident, when clicking around waiting for the enemies to suffocate. I always selected crew by drag select on the actual screen (like most of us do) but when it wasn't convenient I used the f-keys for each crew individually. Good to know even now, I guess...

Noob here to FTl and I have a question. Why are some of my Engies healing even though they aren't in the med bay?

    Posted: 19 Jun 2020 10:35 AM PDT

Ship you think needs more love (underrated).

    Posted: 19 Jun 2020 04:58 PM PDT

My choice is Stealth C. I think it's much better than people give it credit for, and is a solidly mid-tier or even a bit higher than mid-tier ship.

It's got one of the best initial weapon sets of the game (slightly better than Stealth A), decent crew, good layout, and plenty to sell at the store when the time comes.

It also requires a bit of a different approach than other ships and that makes it fun for me to play.

    What are your choices?

When dealing with fires, is it better to just open up the doors to drain the oxygen, or is it better to just send someone in to deal with it?
