    Crew Tier List

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 07:40 PM PDT

There are already tons of ship tier lists comparing which crew you get with each ship, so I'll be comparing crew in a vacuum (pun intended). This isn't about comparing crew in combination with their ships, like the powerful combo of Crystal B and 4-crew boarding with Crystals. Think about it like which crew should you buy at a store if they all cost the same amount. Also, so much of this is situational, and this is just my opinion, and I'm open to changing my mind.

    S Tier

    1. Engi: Being the best when it comes to blue options is huge and double repair speed is also huge. Unless you're desperate for boarders, halved combat effectiveness rarely has a significant impact on the game, especially once you're skilled at venting strategies.
    2. Slug: Being immune to mind control is a big deal since that makes slugs the perfect pilots. Their telepathic sensors are often times highly useful, especially for getting crew kills and using mind control offensively. However, getting a second slug is much less of a big deal. If you could get an all slug crew though, you no longer have to worry about mind control, but that rarely happens when you consider all runs with all ships. Another big plus is that slugs have no weakness.

    A Tier

    1. Crystal: Fantastic for trapping enemy crew and buying time to take out systems, 125 health makes it so you're probably going to win a 1 on 1 fight. The 20% less speed isn't too big a deal, especially since you often don't need micro strategies thanks to the lockdown power. Their ability to fight Lanius and auto-scouts thanks to less damage from suffocation is also useful.
    2. Zoltan: A power bar is great. Being able to prevent shield ion damage with 2 Zoltans is good, but most ships don't start with a Zoltan, so getting 2 at the same time doesn't happen very often when you consider all runs with all ships. Doing 15 damage when they die is rarely a significant help, though it's good that it only harms enemy crew. The 70 health is a significant problem but this can usually be dealt with using micro strategies, including running from rooms that are about to get blasted.

    B Tier

    1. Rockman: Second best for blue options, and no fire damage is a nice bonus. The 150 health makes them good boarders, though boarding also has a lot to do with micro strats that thrive on speed, and Rockmen take all day to get anywhere (50% slower). The slowness indirectly makes them worse at many things, like if you want them to go repair something, it's gonna be awhile before they get their.
    2. Mantis: 1.5X damage and 1.2X move speed makes them dominate as boarders. Halved repair speed, which also applies to fires, is the worst crew weakness in the game. Having only mantes on you ship puts you at serious risk of not being able to put out fires and losing from not being able to repair O2. However, having only mantes rarely happens when you consider all runs with all ships.
    3. Lanius: Fantastic for fighting other Lanius and auto scouts, though the latter requires a teleporter. They move 15% slower, but that's not too big a deal. You can't suffocate them, so they make lousy boarders with a clone bay. Bringing crew to Repair the system they're stationed in is problematic because of the lack of O2.

    C Tier

    1. Human: Despite being the worst crew and constantly made fun of, they're still good. Their biggest strength is that they have no weakness. However, skills improving 5% faster rarely makes a significant impact on the game, especially from the fact that crew can often master their station early from harmless ships. Plus, in the mid and late game new crew come with training to some extent, and your old crew are probably already trained as well.

What gets re-rolled on load? Looking for help to get the Crystal Ship

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 08:26 PM PDT

So I'm generally having fun unlocking ships and layouts, but I'm never seeing the Rock Homeworlds and I'm getting really bored with the hunt for the Crystal Ship.

So now I'm resorting to save scumming to check all of my late game red sectors, and still no Rock Homeworlds.

I just started a game where sector 2 is Rock Controlled and I'm reloading to find the Stasis Pod, I'm got a save right before leaving sector 1, within the Rock Controlled, and right before the Stasis Pod beacon. EVERY time I get 5 hull damage instead of the Pod, no matter what I'm doing, it seems.

I know that you can reload before a Store and re-roll their contents, but what each beacon is doesn't change. Even if I reload from sector 1 and reroll the entire map, will I never be able to get the Pod?

How can I save scum better?

Edit: I can't even get to the Home world's just to get the rock ship, either! Frustrating

I keep getting to the final boss and dying, what am I doing wrong?

    Posted: 06 Aug 2020 12:43 PM PDT

I've played this game close to 200 times, and as of now, only got to the final boss 3 times, all 3 of them failing. I don't know what to do anymore. I've talked about this before, but I've lost one hit away from destroying the ship, it's so infuriating. I try and target the engines, miss 100% of the shots, try and stop the missile guys, the Lazer barrage hits every time with full engines and power. I'm at a loss, any pointers?
