I made a hit chance and average damage calculator (via google sheets)

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 11:25 PM PDT

    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nbQGB3xMV19UZd3E3V0Y9c4EVeLmxxjyhMzeZL7MK9o/edit?usp=sharing

Since it's google sheets, you'll need to hit file > make a copy, so you can have your own copy where you can change the values. Green is input spots, and red is output.

    What it does:

The first sheet, when given a number of projectiles, and enemy dodge chance, it will calculate the chance that any of the possible miss and hit combinations occur. For example, with 2 shots, it will tell you how likely it is you hit 2, hit 1 and miss 1, and miss 2. However, it has a maximum of 16 because I'm lazy, and if you have that many shots you probably don't need to be calculating anyway :p. It also has a graph, which is more of a novelty than it is useful, but is cool to see with the higher projectile counts nonetheless.

The second sheet takes the probabilities on the first sheet, as well as damage per hit, charge time, and shield count to calculate various damage statistics such as raw dps, average hit count post dodge, average dps post dodge and shield, and a few more.

You can use it to calculate stuff for beams also, just make dodge and shield 0, then use projectile count as rooms hit, and damage per shot as damage per room.

You cannot, however, combine unlike projectiles. If you have a Burst Laser II and Flak I, for example, their projectiles have the exact same properties of 1 damage and 1 shield damage, so you can treat them as the same and put in 6 projectiles. Keep in mind though that AOE is not accounted for in the calculations.

The math process is explained in the sheet if you're interested. (In screenshots of notepad, because putting normally formatted text into google sheets is really annoying to do).

If you find a mistake in the math please let me know. I put a fair amount of time into this and want it to be accurate. (Really hope there's not some crucial flaw, lol)

I thought I was dead for sure without any hacking or cloaking. Turns out 10 lasers is enough

    Adjusting to normal

    Posted: 27 Mar 2021 08:52 AM PDT

I've recently been gifted this game and so far I'm really enjoying it. It's taken a little while to learn but I've now beaten easy a few times and unlocked some extra ships. The last win was pretty emphatic so I figured it's time to move on. I've had some bad luck runs before but even only on normal this seems to bite hard when you don't get equipment or weapon drops. Scrap seems to be much stingier so it looks like you really have to prioritise.

    Any good tips? Thanks!
