    Since the Burst 2 V Flak 1 got so many poeple to comment their reasoning and explain the pros n cons of both. i want to do the same with the Beams

    Is it possible to install mods without slipstream mod manager?

    I just want the extended pursuit indicator mod. Slipstream needs Java which I do not want to install on my pc.

    New to the sub, relatively new to FTL. I picked it up sometime last year at the recommendation of a friend and started playing shortly after Christmas. My younger brother and I have been having a blast, it took a while to get into the swing of it but I quickly picked up on things like getting Shield upgrades early, the rough hierarchy of beams, not using drones on Fed, etc. So since we're about to hit 100 collective hours (Best guess at individual would be 65-35) I thought I would share my stories.

    Might as well start with my first victory, Engi A on easy. That run is where things started to click into place. I began to actually pay attention to beacons, and through that completed the Zoltan quest (got envoy, which ended up being good in the long run). That run convinced me of the efficacy of Drones, which I had up to that point avoided because they looked expensive. Ended up being a fun run and I was really stoked when I found out the boss had only 3 stages (had previously gotten but not beaten stage 3) Up to that point I hadn't been playing with Advanced Edition, so I began experimenting with AA thereafter, haven't looked back.

    After that there was a mix of runs, some good, some bad. I lost Kestrel B in sector 7 at least twice, which was very demoralizing (still haven't seen Kestrel C, trying again either later today or tomorrow). I had similar problems with almost, but not quite, finishing the quests for the Rock, Slug, and Mantis ships. Any time I had one criteria I didn't have the others. It was at roughly this time that I discovered the excellent Kestrel Adventures on YouTube, ended up binging the series. Might have been a good luck charm because right after...

    Zoltan A Victory, Normal.
    It was a really good run. two BL2s, the Leto, and the Halberd Beam, plus Hacking and Drones for the win. Had an absolute blast and I'm like 90% sure that's still my highscore. Anyway that's how I got the Mantis and Lanius ships.

    Shortly after that my younger brother got his first win, Fed B Easy of all things. I don't know much about the run since I was asleep at the time, but he was super happy, and I was proud of him too. Bit of a shame that Fed C is so...eccentric would probably be the best way to put it, but that was a good day regardless.

    My two latest runs are probably my favorites though. See, I was in the position of only having one Zoltan achievement, Shields Holding. Looking at the other two I struck upon something. Manpower only requires that you get to Sector 5 without upgrading the Reactor. That's actually really simple if all you take the shortest route and avoid all fights...so I did just that. It was wonderfully cheesy and I spent the rest of the day smiling to myself like a cat who's gotten into the fridge and wrecked everything. Well anyway, I now had Zoltan B, and I decided that I might as well take it for a spin. What a spin it was.

    For one, I finally got the Rockman Sun survival Quest, unlocking the Rock ship. 2, I reached Sector 8 first try, so I now have all 3 Zoltan ships. 3. I managed to get to stage 2 of the Flag, and would have beat it if it hadn't been for nasty luck with where their drones fired. They sniped sensors which meant I couldn't use my MC unfortunately. Still a great run, especially since my weapon luck was awful. I swear every shop had some variant of the Hull Laser series.

    TL;DR
    I'm new, but learning the ropes, and having a blast doing it.

    Couple questions:
    1. Need I worry about mods? I've noticed most people seem to use UI or Shield mods, I've also seen talk of mods like Multiverse and Captains Edition thrown around.
    2. What prerequisites do I need for the Stealth ship? I'm assuming it's Engi Homeworlds but do I need a particular crew or system? Is it possible I just haven't encountered it because it's rare?

    Have a bit of a dilemma- which loadout is better? Current one allows me to target specific systems, but I can only power two weapons at once. All ion loadout is better for power allocation, but it leaves only my drones w/ no specific targeting. TIA!

    This is just out of my own curiosity since I looked at my steam playtime of 388 hours recently, not even including the times I've opened the game through SMM. How much time have you spent in FTL? This is by far the most time I've sank into any game.

    Misspent youth and all that.
