Why Engi B is the worst ship in the game Posted: 02 May 2020 09:27 PM PDT At first, Engi B looks like a drone ship. After all, it starts with 3 power in drones, and 3 drone blueprints. This illusion quickly fades though: not only does the ship only start with 6 drone parts, but all of the drones are reactive in nature rather than proactive. They only exist for damage control on your own ship, and can't help you take down enemy ships. You'll likely be dependent on them for much of the game, as the ship layout is outright hostile for defense and repair (explained in the next paragraph.) The only external airlocks are on the back half of the ship, which make venting fire or boarders difficult. The Doors subsystem is between the lower airlock and the rest of the ship, making it even harder to vent boarders. The medbay is two tiles instead of three, making it harder to use as a defense point. The most immediately critical systems (Weapons and Shields) are three rooms away from an airlock, so good luck if they catch on fire. Engi B's primary source of damage is from regular weapons, so in that respect it's kind of a gunship. It's crippled by its 3 weapon slots though. To add insult to injury, the ship is unable to use Mind Control against enemy pilots due to its complete lack of a Sensors subsystem. It's just a terrible gunship. I haven't even touched on the worst part of Engi B yet. As a cherry on top of the proverbial shit sundae, Engi B is the only ship in the game that can't defeat a 2-shield enemy with its starting weapons. (Go back and read that last sentence again.) Slug B can use boarding. Rock A can throw missiles. Hell, even Fed C can eventually plink them down with the flak artillery. Engi B has no choice other than to run — and good luck running with your level 1 engines. At least the other bad ships have interesting gimmicks that can actually give you an advantage. Slug B's Healing Pulse can be more versatile than a medbay if you plan ahead. If you land Fed C's boarders in enemy Piloting, you can increase the hit chance of the artillery flak. Stealth B is an absolute powerhouse if you baby it (and get decently lucky.) Engi B, on the other hand, has no redeeming qualities. Its gimmick is that it has the worst starting crew, the worst offensive loadout, and one of the worst room layouts. It's just perplexingly bad in every way. [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 May 2020 09:11 AM PDT Title. I've reinstalled FTL today and I've been messing around with the FTL Profile Editor v27 for shits and giggles. In the crew editing menu, in Race section I've found an entry called "battle". Selecting it and applying changes race of crew member to human, but it gives it 150HP instead of the usual 100HP. I've checked the Wiki, googled around for a while and found no info about it. So what exactly is the Battle Human, and is it possible to obtain such a crew member in-game without save editing? My save file is (mostly gone), anything that can be done? Posted: 02 May 2020 05:29 PM PDT Hello commanders, I first played FTL a couple weeks ago but I'm already almost at 200 hours playtime. This game is incredible, but alas I don't come with good news. I was playing it earlier today when the lights went out in my home. After they came back I launched the game to continue my journey and it wasn't there. To my dismay, when I went to begin a new one, I realized the ships were gone too! My stats are also gone! What is weirder is that it's not like a new profile, the achievements are still there, and some B model ships are also unlocked (even if they type A are not). I searched the internet and quickly saw other people had this problem, but I didn't see any happy endings. Is there something that can be done? Gratitude. [link] [comments]

I extended the Mantis soundtrack ending Posted: 02 May 2020 06:24 PM PDT Hello all! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=65aP2-LEbJU Recently my Spotify recommended to me the main theme to FTL and reminded me of the extended ending I put together some time to go. My favourite track was Mantis but mainly because of that ending something about it just caught me, I just wished it was longer. So I made it longer. I clipped together the battle and explore versions a couple times and they just went so well together, to me at least. I know nothing of music production so forgive me if it sounds awful and I'm unsure if this falls under some copyright grey area so I'll remove the post of needs be. Anyway, thought some of you may enjoy it! Edit: goddamit I don't know how to reddit :( [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 May 2020 01:13 PM PDT The simple understanding I have of normal beams is that when shields are down, they're great, but when shields are up, the shields will just prevent the beams from doing anything. However, that's not always the case--sometimes when I've been hitting a ship with drones/ions, even when the shields are still up, the beams do damage. Is there an intuitive way to understand when I should and should not use beams? Like, if the shields are "rebuilding," are they weak? Or is it mostly random? [link] [comments]
A wholehearted recommendation for anyone struggling. Posted: 02 May 2020 11:40 AM PDT Hello all. FTL is a tough game. From unfair bullshit to player ability, it's what makes the darn thing so addictive. Well friends, want to feel even more incompetent? A long time twitch streamer called LethalFrag is what I and about 2500 other people would call, the king of FTL. With over 3,000 hours under his belt, he kinda knows what he is doing. So much so that he's beaten the flagship with every ship, on hard mode, without pausing the game AND it's all recorded and organised for your viewing pleasure on his Youtube channel. Seen here. https://www.youtube.com/user/LethalFrag It's a staple on his channel and is honestly the most relaxing and satisfying thing to watch whilst tucked up in bed on a cold windy night. Jokes aside, this guy is bonkers. So please, for any and all that are sick and tired of being spanked by sector 4 and above, give him a watch and learn. Not a paid plug. [link] [comments]
