Dealing with flak when boarding Posted: 28 May 2020 12:23 AM PDT I'm new to Normal and the game requires a lot more thought now. In sector 3 I took a Kestral A up to L3 shield. I had 4 engine and 10 reactor. A pirate with 2 mantis, engi on piloting and an APD were in a ship with flak 1, and I think a Mk1 laser. I boarded piloting, killed engi, warped out. Flak 1 plus their laser kept getting through my shields and killed me during healing. I also realized I was vulnerable to missles since weapons were depowered for so much shield and engines. I think to do it again, skip L3 shield, add 1 weapon slot to have 2 weapons online, and keep hitting their weapons to keep them down. Or would you guys try to kill the mantis using ship weapons, while healing? Another question: can you stop a fleeing (FTL drive charging) ship by turning engines red? Or only piloting? In general I'm curious what sector you guys try for L3 shields. And whether you even try for L4 on normal, or tend to focus elsewhere. [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 May 2020 10:53 AM PDT So, regarding those events that happen when you reach a destination. For instance, there is an asteroid field that you can investigate. I noticed the outcome is always a 5 damage hull breach + fire in the ship. Is there a percentage for each event? Like, 75% of hull breach+fire or 25% find goods? Or each event has a single outcome? If my ship dies, when I restart the game, will it become better? Posted: 27 May 2020 05:14 PM PDT So, when I died on the first playthrough I got a new Engi ship. But, after that, I apparently never got anything new. Is it common to gain something after a game over? Or should I accomplish something in order to gain something? Or is just like that... you die and game over. [link] [comments]

Posted: 27 May 2020 09:54 AM PDT Hello. I've been playing the Federation Cruiser Type C (the one with the Flak Artillery and the Teleporter) on Normal difficulty with Advanced Content enabled, and I had a question. I've had one or two successful runs with it, but I find myself dying loads in the first or second Sectors. Since I don't have any weapons except said Artillery (which takes fifty seconds to load), the minute I encounter someone with anything more than a Basic Laser I start taking damage. Other times, the first ship I fight has an Artemis missile launcher which immediately disables my Shields. So I thought "Well, just send your crew in to disable enemy Weapons, right?" Well, no. I do that, and they massacre my crew. They come back in the Clone Bay, but then the enemy steps into their Med Bay, and I'm back where I started. Then they hit me with a Beam weapon or murder me with a drone. I'm almost always fighting at least one mantis, and they have more combat-ready crew than I do. I'm consistently fighting ships in the first Sector that shoot three lasers per volley, and that's more than enough to set me back in repairs, if I survive. Which I tend not to, since they break my Oxygen, break the hull in my Shields room, and set my Clone Bay on fire. It's true that enemies like that appear pretty often, I know. But most other ships have SOMETHING to put pressure on the enemy or take the missiles out of the equation. If I can survive the first couple of fights and upgrade shields, I do better, but that seldom happens. Or if I get a bigger crew, that works too. But again, I don't survive long enough for that to happen. I guess my question is this: is getting through the first or second Sectors with a Federation Cruiser Type C a matter of luck or skill? I can't figure what it is I'm doing wrong, and I'm not new to this game. I've been playing for a long time. If it's just a matter of me being really unlucky, then I guess that's how it is. But if there's a strategy I'm not savvy enough to recognize, I'd like to hear it. I'm not looking for a walk-through, mind you, just general tips. Thanks everyone. Godspeed. For the Federation. Possible bug with an event in the secret sector? Posted: 27 May 2020 11:13 AM PDT So I finally managed to get into the hidden crystal sector for the first time in ages. I got into a battle with a crystal ship that had slaves onboard and after battering them, they offered to surrender and release a slave to me. I accepted the offer and expected the battle to end like with a normal slave ship. But the game allowed me to continue fighting the crystal ship, and they appeared to still be fighting back, even though they had apparently surrendered. I destroyed their ship and got the usual rewards (I got the slave as a crew member upon accepting the surrender like normal). Is this normal behaviour? This is only the second time I've made it to the crystal sector, so I don't know if this is how the event is supposed to play out or if it's meant to be like when a normal ship surrenders. It seems kinda strange the fight continued after the enemy surrendered. This happened on the most recent version of the iPad version. My ship was Rock C. Does anybody here know anything about this? Posted: 27 May 2020 05:21 AM PDT Does anyone know the titles of songs present in Captain's Edition mod? So far I only found 5 titles of them out of 19. [link] [comments] |
