    How do I win? Any general tips?

    I have about 50 hours in this game according to steam. Probably a bit more because I often play this game when I don't have any internet. I always play on Normal, no AE. (I don't even know what catching flak is ._.) So far I only have Kestrel A, Rock A, Engi AB and Stealth A. I have a hard time finding unlock quests in homeworlds, winning and getting those god damn achievements!1!!1 I never used Boarding ever. (so far) I rarely get to Sector 8. (lately it happens more often) I ditch Rockets asap. (I don't like relying on them) I rarely buy Drones, if ever defense only.

    I had the almost God Kestrel A run but I fucked it up in the Flagship battle. First shop has a Burst II (bye bye Artemis). A few slightly longer fights and I can use both at once. (They pretty much carried me through the game.) Get a Glaive from random event two beacons later. Pretty Neat. Sadly I never found a weapon pre igniter nor a long range scanner :///. A few upgrades and a few sectors later and I have: 3 Shield Layers 4 Powered Engine Levels 6 Weapon Levels Full Crew w. all the Level 2 skills they need Cams, Doors, Oxygen and Medbay with buffer levels (for blue options too ofc)

    And then I do the thing that I maybe shouldn't have done?

    I sell my second burst to afford Cloaking w. Stealth Weapons. Upgraded that to Max later.

    Eventually, the Flagship fight begins. I got most Hullpoints, I avoid every couple rocket Salvos with my cloak. And I get a nice beam hit on the pilot and the missile guy after waiting 18 or so seconds. My burst doesn't do shit against 4 shields, it basically only offers entry for the glaive beam In the end the rockets got to me after a long winded fight... And I didn't even beat phase 1 ;~; that was pretty depressing...

    Oh and I noticed more ships than usual had burst IIs and Cloaking as soon as I got it. That's AI doin it's thing to balance it out right?

    Edit: Thanks everyone for the helpful answers! :) I shall enable AE then and play on easy to get the hang of it.

    Is it easier to try and find the crystal race with or without advanced edition?

    I'm so god damn tired of running Rock C looking for those bastards. Idk why but it seems like it's even harder to come across the stasis chamber these days.

    So I start with Nessasio and get on a crazy good roll. I have upgraded shields, about seven crewmembers, cloaking (ofc), mark 3 laser, a beam, level 5 engines, and a teleporter with a couple of badass rock fighters. I'm tearing through everything I see.

    But what do I see? An energy bomber with 3 zoltan shields that you can't teleport through and 5 lasers are not enough to pierce through and boasting every single weapon that exists. They teleported four zoltans on my ship and by the time I was out of cloak hit me with such a barrage of projectiles I was half dead in one shot. I was fully dead so fast my laser didn't even have time to recharge :)

    How to exclude Rock Homeworld from a run?

    First of all, I have unlocked all ships including Crystal B.

    I'm in a Rock C and see a Rock Controlled sector (sector 3). Is Rock Homeworld excludable from this run?

    If not, is the only true way, to get to the last non 8 level red sector and exclude it that way?

    Another question: In the Rock C cruiser, will I see a Quest marker on the Crystal Sector the moment I enter the Rock Homeworld sector map? Or do I need to be 1 marker away to "scan" for that quest?
