Ship Randomizer by KBA3u UPDATE 1.9!

    Posted: 11 Aug 2020 12:20 AM PDT

End game glitch - I jumpped before the last shots hit the rebel ship, was softlocked in this screen, still got victory and unlocked stealth.

    Posted: 10 Aug 2020 07:33 PM PDT

Aww the rebels leveled up my crew's combat for me! Thanks!

I am trying to do the crystal unlock quest, and then I see this sector map.

    FIRE

    Posted: 10 Aug 2020 11:25 PM PDT

Just got FTL and played my 1st ever game. Everything was going great until I got a fire in the ship. My automatic doors were damaged and I kept sending my crew to extinguish the fire and it kept spreading and spreading and they eventually died. Very frustrating end to first run.

I'm sure I'm missing something simple to put out the fire but what was I suppose to do?

    Thanks!

    How to "juggle" enemy weapons

    Posted: 10 Aug 2020 05:36 PM PDT

I've decided to post this because I've seen so many players fail to take advantage of this strategy. This allows you to reliably avoid damage against many, many enemy ships as long as you have 100% evasion cloaking and level 2 or 3 hacking.

Let's say you're fighting against a ship that has 2 leto missiles and 2 artemis missiles. Attach your hacking drone to their weapons, but don't hack. Wait until the fastest 2 missiles are just about to fire, then hack with level 2 or 3 hacking. After the hack, once they load and fire, cloak immediately after the slower missiles fire, ideally with 100% evasion. Once the missiles are just about ready to fire again, your hacking will be ready to use again. You can keep repeating this process, and your cloaking and hacking will always be ready when you need them as long as you get the timing right.

There are situations where this defensive strategy may be wrong. If the enemy ship is trying to run, maybe hack shields or piloting instead to give yourself the best shot of defeating them. If the enemy has 2 weapons that fire at very different speeds, like a hull missile and a leto, then this strategy won't completely work because you can't cloak both of them at the same time. Also, make sure to consider whether the fight is scary enough that it needs a drone part.

    TL/DR

With the right circumstances and timing, the hack and cloak juggle cannot be penetrated.

I had Rock A as my last ship to beat the flagship with until I got the crystal cruiser, so the game gave me my easiest run ever!

Has anyone ever thought of there being a spin-off game based on FTL, like a top-down shooter?

    Posted: 10 Aug 2020 10:20 AM PDT

I think a top-down shooter based on the boarding crew fights from the game could have a lot of potential, with all the mechanics that could carry over (air locks, systems, races, etc.). The basic objective (as I'm thinking of it) would be to either eliminate all the attacking/defending crew members or preserve/destroy the boarded ship. I think it could work as a team-based or local experience, just with how complex you could make it given what is already in the game.

I could go into further detail about my thoughts on this, but I'd love to know if anyone else, let alone the devs, has given this kind of thing consideration before. I can't believe I didn't think of it until now

Can anyone give me a definitive "how to get x-plat cloud saves working" guide?

    Posted: 10 Aug 2020 10:46 AM PDT

    Hey

So I have dual boot windows / linux desktop and a macbook. My preferred OS is basically anything but windows, but I keep a win partition for a few games that don't run via proton. I play a lot of FTL and currently boot into Windows for it, because I can't get cloud syncing working.

There's some fragmented and old guides / forums posts knocking around, but I can't for the life of me get it working consistently on both my Macbook and my Linux partition.

If anyone could offer me some help to get it working I'd really appreciate it!

    Thanks

Similar to FTL - FTL + Pirates

    Posted: 10 Aug 2020 10:34 AM PDT

Thought I'd share this with everyone.

If FTL were made with pirates instead of in space...
