I am a very slow learner

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 01:29 PM PST

Many, many hours screaming at RNGesus and I only just figured out something that makes me feel very dumb: if you have both MC and a teleporter, you can totally futz with the AI by teleporting into shields, mind controlling the first enemy who runs in, and then immediately running your boarders out to go and destroy a vital system (e.g. medbay...) while the rest of the AI crew goes 'oh crap, shields are under attack!' and dashes in to fight their frenzied teammate.

Doesn't work on enemy anti-personnel drones, ships with decent doors, or ships where crew > (spaces in shield room + 1), but once the penny had dropped this made my latest Shrike run (even) easier - the AI spends time attacking itself instead of your boarders, and it's useful when that darn Adv Flak keeps missing the darn medbay...

No doubt everyone else figured this out long ago but just thought I'd share my Gru 'liiiightbulb' moment!

who says lasers arent usefull against enemy crew

    Strange bug I just noticed

    Posted: 30 Nov 2020 06:20 AM PST

Hull damage did not register when the enemy boarders took out the last bit of system HP during my FTL jump to the next beacon. System was broken like normal but the hull stayed the same.

I was in one of those dumb free boarder solar flare events, but a store was my next beacon so I jumped to safety before finishing them off. Since these are relatively common, I wonder if anyone else had seen this quirk before?

Does anyone else train their crew?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 12:27 PM PST

Forgive me if this is common knowledge, but I thought I'd share a strategy that I've been using for a while.

When I find an enemy ship that has no chance of damaging my hull or destroying vital systems, I let the fight play out until my crew are fully trained at their stations.

For example, in sector 1, if an enemy ship has a single laser, no hacking, no attack drones, and I have at least one shield, I let the enemy ship volley at my ship until I've dodged enough shots to fully level up my crew.

Similarly, if I have a weapon that I can turn on autofire without having it damage the enemy hull, I let that run until my weapons crew is fully trained.

If I run into a ship with two single-shot lasers and I only have one shield, then I would try and damage their weapons so that the two lasers don't fire together, allowing my shields to recharge between single shots.

If I want to train my shields, then I power down my engines.

When I do this, I just let the game run and go and do something else for 5-10 mins, and I come back to a fully leveled up crew!

Boarding Objective Successful achievement problems registering?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2020 03:52 PM PST

So this is the last of the general achievements I have left to get, but something seems bugged about it for me.

On my last run, I was 99% sure my Mantis B boarding drone killed at least 4 slugs after my crew whittled down their health to near zero. I microed them out of the shield room so the drone could finish them off, but the achievement didn't take. The room was breached, so I just figured they may have died to asphyxiation, and I was in a nebula and had a hard time seeing clearly. No matter.

So my next run I'm using Mantis B again, going for it. I run into my first 4 crew ship, and even though it's on a solar flare beacon, I decide to go for it again. Same maneuver, sent 4 crew over to take away 90% of their health, and let the boarding drone enter shield and pick each of them off. But again, the achievement still won't register.

I've read and reread the wording over and over again. "Have a single boarding drone kill 4 crewmembers on one ship."

Is there something I'm missing? Is my game maybe bugged?
