Posted: 20 Dec 2020 05:23 PM PST For reference, I have a few hundred hours in this game and play on normal (winning almost all the time). When I finally unlocked crystal B I decided to just have a fun run on easy and see what I could make happen with the apparent strongest ship in the game. Obviously, things started out pretty standard - board with 2 crystals, mess things up, life is good. I picked up an early human to pilot and let my 3 crystals go ham on enemy ships. Grabbed an early burst laser mark I from a shop to make up for my lack of weapons and expecte a pretty standard boarding game but with the added fun of a 4 tile teleporter + crystal crew. Then when I saw a weapon preigniter in sector 2 I couldn't help myself - it's easy difficulty and I have bonus scrap from boarding, not like I was running out of scrap. Shortly after the game blessed me with a free Flak I - clearly the Gods had wanted me to get weapon preigniter. It was around sector 3 when I got given a fire beam for free. A few jumps later I got ANOTHER free flak I. I don't know how many of you play around with the fire based weaponry (I sure don't in a normal run) but when you have a guaranteed way to set a fire across half an enemy ship in the first couple of seconds of a fight.... things get messy. I hardly used the teleporter AT ALL for the rest of the run. Seriously. Every fight I shot out their weaponry and set fire to their oxygen (+ half the rest of the ship) almost immediately, and then kicked back to watch the AI basically panic for 2 minutes whilst they burnt to death. Occasionally, they'd survive the fire... only to die from a lack of oxygen a minute later. I even grabbed myself a hacking system to lock up some doors and mess with the AI a bit more. At one point I found myself hacking the medbay so that I could say "execute order 66" and watch their last crew die. This run was far, FAR too entertaining. Before the flagship fight I completely maxed out my ship, something I've never done before and probably won't do again. The flagship itself? Phase 1 and 2 had never been so easy - I could honestly have sat there for as long as I wanted whilst taking no damage (this was definitely the longest I've been in a flagship fight and not died - normally you need to kill that thing ASAP to stand a chance). I only mercy killed the flagship when I was worried about taking out their oxygen as I didn't want the AI to take over (which wouldn't really matter with this set up if we're being honest). Not even close to taking damage on the first 2 phases (admittedly, I did see 2 power surge drone attacks that consisted of JUST beam drones, but even the combat heavy ones were useless against the mighty Crystal B). Phase 3 was effectively the same, however the zoltan shield meant I needed to actually fire my weapons twice instead of just firing once and kicking back to watch the burn. Being the idiot I am, I cleverly cancelled my cloaking with my own second barrage, perfectly timed to take a full power surge to the face. For a brief moment, as the shots hit far more than I expected I was genuinely concerned I'd lose this fight for all my fun-having. Then I remembered they had 0 crew and the entire flagship was on fire and laughed at my own panic. To finish this mad run off, I crushed my scrap record (I think it was around 2600 before) and reached 3092! Can't wait to try out Crystal B on a more challenging run, and maybe even start using fire weapons [link] [comments]
Is there a Discord for Captain's edition? Posted: 20 Dec 2020 04:18 PM PST I'm really enjoying the mod and I'm wondering if there's a place where i can discuss this mod with other people [link] [comments]
Oxygen starvation strat for flagship Posted: 20 Dec 2020 07:01 AM PST Ok, so I beat the game on easy mode, advanced features off, with the Kestrel today. It was my first time taking down the flagship, after losing to it probably about 4-5 times in the last couple days. I get the feeling that "advanced features" changes strategies around a LOT, but I was wondering if people often go for oxygen starvation in phase I of the flagship fight. i had the thought because I realised in the first phase of my fight that after disabling the weapons, I could try to kill more personnel in the hopes of making phase III easier. I had a small bomb equipped, which let me target areas and sometimes set them on fire, without risking doing enough damage to end the phase. If I had had 2 rockmen in my crew, I could have disabled their oxygen module, hoping to set it on fire and do damage to the crew before teleporting in. Then the rockmen would have had a huge advantage fighting in there. As it was, I got really close to killing them all that way, but i did just a bit too much hull damage to keep it up before ending the phase. I'm guessing the AI takes over if all the crewmen die that way, but having them all dead would be a huge advantage after that anyway. I'm guessing this has been done a lot already. Do people go back and play non-advanced settings? I get the impression it puts different constraints on the game. [link] [comments]
Posted: 20 Dec 2020 06:56 AM PST Hello, Im wondering if there is such a mod that would give me more information during events/map, so i dont have to open the wiki for them. I have beaten the game plenty of times, im just trying to make hunting achievements and quests easier. Thanks for your time. [link] [comments]
