Posted: 21 Dec 2020 02:16 PM PST Inspired by the defunct FTLAV mod, which I tried and failed to get working myself, I painstakingly recorded game data for a single run. The run itself was pretty dicey; I barely made any use of augmentations, an embarrassing number of ships escaped, I hit 1 HP twice, and I died on almost immediate contact with the flagship's first barrage. While I'm certainly not proud of this run, it's the one going on display because recording this data was a lot less fun that it sounds, and I know how bad it sounds. This is it. I recommend you download the workbook (if you have Tableau) so it runs at an acceptable pace. And if you're unsure what something is, despite my best efforts to make it intuitive, just hover the cursor over it and a tooltip will most likely appear :) [link] [comments]

Posted: 21 Dec 2020 06:46 PM PST Hi all! I'm back with another chapter. The story posts every Monday at 2pm (though I have been posting on Wednesdays here), but this week I will actually be posting Chapter 5 on Thursday. Both this story and my story on clone bay morality got nominated for r/FanFiction's awards contest. Voting starts on Wednesday so I planned to post then to ask for help getting FTL some love in the greater fandom community. Thus, I am posting Chapter 4 today. On with the show! ----- Next Chapter (5) Story about the clone bay and how it affects the crew ----- Chapter 4: The Assent (Ascent) Seinen leaned in close. Pell instinctively snapped her legs shut. Not that he was focused on that; he seemed to be looking for something in her eyes. "Would you like to?" His smiling face hovered over hers, eyes half-lidded in an amorous stare. Pell's face began to burn everywhere his breath touched. Seinen wasn't close enough to kiss, but she could still feel his mouth and every inch he brushed past. Circling her left cheek, his breath trailed down her neck, sending goosebumps rippling through her as she clenched her eyes shut, fighting to stifle a gasp. Seinen paused as a small whimper still escaped her lips, and he ducked in, pressing his lips to cool skin. "W-What are you doing?" Pell uttered, voice barely above a whisper. It took him a moment to respond. He let his lips linger on her pulse, as if reveling in the speed of her heartbeat. "Hm?" His voice suave and hushed like warm, smooth silk caressing across her skin. He rested his face in the crook of her neck before raising it to brush his cheek against hers. Pell's breath hitched. As their eyes met, she felt heat course through her body, concentrating in her face and hands, a stark contrast to the chill of the floor. Seinen sweeped a finger along her shoulder. "I've seen the way you look at me. I know you're attracted to me. And I think you're stunning. So…why not enjoy ourselves before everything ends? We have the time." "…You think I'm beautiful?" She swallowed hard, forcing steadiness she didn't feel into her tone. In one fluid motion, he sat back up, pulling her with him and burying a hand in her hair. He undid her bun, snapping his wrist to send the hair tie flying. "Particularly so with your hair down." He combed fingers through her straight hair, encouraging it to cascade past her shoulders. Seinen ran a finger down the crimps in her hair from where she always tied it up. Pell fluttered at his touch, eyes darting frantically between his face and wandering hand. Seinen's gaze burned through her as he perused her whole body, his expression unreadable. He didn't give her time to wonder at the thoughts hidden behind that mask as he dragged her in closer with a firm hand on her lower back. His hand slid from her hair to her chin, and he tilted her face up as he leaned closer. "Do you want me to say it again?" Lips brushed against her cheek as he whispered into her left ear. "You're stunning." All the tension drained from her body, his words music in her ears. She closed her eyes and lifted her head, wanting to only revel in the warmth spreading through her body at his declaration. A soft and steady moan passed her lips again, but this time she didn't try to stop it. Seinen brushed her cheek with his in response. Encouraged, he returned his attention to her neck, murmuring compliments into her now flushed skin as Pell's head fell back, granting him further access to her sensitive skin. Still in a daze, she turned her head, attempting to capture his mouth in another fierce kiss, only to find his once soft grip now a steel vice, locking her in place an unsatisfactory distance from his mouth. One arm curved up across her back and held her left shoulder, preventing her from meeting his mouth. Pell almost hadn't noticed it in her trance. It was only when she tried to meet him did he use force. Seinen clicked his tongue softly. "I don't think so. It's your turn now." ----- One of these days, the NSFW tag is going to actually warrant being used lol The full story can be found here, on my AO3 page. Have a nice day! [link] [comments]

Can a Defense II drone be distracted from a missile by a barrage of lasers? Posted: 22 Dec 2020 01:46 AM PST The Defense Drone II is usually kept really busy shooting as many laser shots as it can. Does it always prioritize missiles the way that a Defense I drone (which can't shoot lasers) focuses on the hostile missiles? Or if it is busy shooting lasers just before the missile approaches, then the missile is more likely to get through? I'm wondering if I'm facing an enemy with a Defense II drone deployed and multiple shields, and say I only have one missile launcher but several laser guns or flak cannons, then should I fire a salvo of lasers/flak an instant before firing the missile in the hopes that the DD2 will be overwhelmed? The Alien Races of FTL and the Magic: The Gathering Colour Pie Posted: 21 Dec 2020 01:29 PM PST So, this is a wild theory I have about two completely unrelated franchises which seem to overlap in a surprising manner. It could all be complete coincidence, nevertheless I found it interesting enough to warrant writing out a long text post about it. The theory: each of the alien races in FTL fit neatly into one of the colours of mana in the Magic: The Gathering (MTG) colour pie, both in flavour and mechanics to the extent that the developers may have been influenced by the colour system when designing the races. What is the MTG Colour Pie? MTG is a very popular trading card game which began back in 1993. Players assemble decks of creatures and spells to overcome opponents and reduce their life points to zero through various means. The game is built around a mana system, in which mana of a particular colour (provided by land cards) is required to cast particular spells or cast creatures. There are six colours in total: White, blue, black, red, green and colourless. Not only do the creatures and spells that may be cast using each colour have unique mechanical characteristics, each colour has its own philosophies and aims, and interact with other colours in different ways, leading to the Colour Pie. I'll go into which race I think fits into each slice of the pie and why. White - Zoltan White mana is about order, law and altruism. White creatures are typically knights, paladins and heroes who strengthen other creatures on the battlefield. White spells can give extra life to the player, or protect creatures, or exert order to control the opponent and prevent them dealing damage. The Zoltan fit this nicely flavour-wise, as they are sticklers for the law (even if it's not exactly moral to do so...). Their Zoltan shield protects their ships from initial harm. The Zoltans themselves give their own power to the ship, contributing to the whole, and deal damage upon death for The Greater Good. Blue - Engi Blue is the colour of logic, technology and intellectual curiosity (big brain time). Blue spells are all about fetching answers to any action the opponent may take (through drawing cards), and disrupting or disabling the opponent through means such as unsummoning creatures and counterspells. The Engi are a technology-driven race who are adept mechanics, and are allied to the (possibly) white mana aligned Zoltans, which fits with blue and white being allied colours. Their use of ion weapons matches blue's preference for disrupting opponents without dealing direct damage, and their use of drones is similar to blue's love of devices and artefacts. Black - Slugs Black mana is about putting yourself before others - in order to succeed, you can't let others get in your way. Black mana creatures can be vampires or necromancers or thieves, and their spells offer single-target elimination (spot removal). Slugs are a race who seem to have little regard for others, and will regularly try to cheat and connive their way to getting what they want. Their use of the bio-beam matches black mana's spot removal - why destroy the ship if you can kill its crew instead? Red - Mantis Red is the colour of heightened emotion, of impulse and freedom (or chaos). Red creatures are all about offence, leaving very little in the way of defence. Red spells deal direct damage to opponents or their creatures. The Mantis are a war-like race that will brazenly teleport themselves onto opponents' ships to destroy them, with little regard for their own health. Their own ships also typically have lower shields than those of other races. (also they have red ships lol) Green - Rockmen Green is the colour of nature, tradition and growth. Green creatures are strong and primal, or intelligent creatures who aid nature. Green spells tap into nature itself to provide more mana (although that isn't super relevant here). Rockmen are a naturally strong, resilient race who value ancient traditions built around those characteristics. Colourless - Lanius (and Crystal) Colourless cards summon inanimate objects, or inanimate objects which have become animate. Colourless creatures may also break any understanding of what a living thing could be. I think these apply to the Lanius, living metal creatures whose ways are cryptic and unkown to the other races. These points may also apply to the Crystals. What do you think? Do you agree with these categorisations? [link] [comments]

Is there a way to do iOS save file transfer still? Posted: 21 Dec 2020 10:03 AM PST I want to copy my iPad save file over to Steam (for achievements). Apparently, as of iOS 8.3, app developers specifically need to give permission to see app file contents, and FTL doesn't grant this. This used to be possible, as I did this a long while back when the iPad app first came out, and I moved my save from steam to iOS. (Now that I've noticed steam has achieves, and my iPad save is far ahead, I want to sync them back up to also sync up my achieves, and also scoreboards). Alternately, it'd be nice to have just general cloud sync, but I don't think that's likely. [link] [comments] |
