What do you think about hacking?

Hy there, i'm a filthy scrub noob and id' like to hear some experiensed people's opinions on hacking.

1) is it better than flak/boarding/ion/bombs in taking down shields? how would you rank it in that matter?

2)is it a good offensive option against weapons or engines if not used against shields?

3) is it worth buying if your ship doesn't start with it?

Any comments are greatly appretiated.

Skill Training

Do any of you take time on runs to train your crew?

I like to stop on an early drone ship and fully man the engine, shields, and bridge. If my ship has a weak weapon that can't kill the ship I then man the weapons get a fully trained weapon skill as well.

DNA Bank keep blue option?

This just came to my mind but, If a crewmember is being cloned can he still be used for blue events? like if I have one engi in my clone bay waiting list can I still choose an Engi blue option? Or if my clone Bay is off and he's in the DNA bank
