I've wondered for years - what exactly are Engies? Posted: 20 Apr 2021 04:14 PM PDT I've played FTL for many years now, but I've never been able to figure out what Engies are supposed to be? What would they look like up close in 3D? I know what they do and their purpose in the game, but what is their species? A lot of fan art seem to depict them differently, some as large humans in hazmat suits, some as aliens, some as robots. To me they look like they have long curved over necks with a screen/visor on the end, with thick proportions. They don't exactly look human, like the humans do. Zoltan are human shaped but glowing, Mantis are obviously praying mantises, Slugs are big slugs and so on. Is there a canon explanation for what Engies actually are? [link] [comments]
Questions regarding diverse building Posted: 20 Apr 2021 08:28 PM PDT So i am a huge fan in rouguelikes however im not necessarily very good. Anyways the reason why i like them is because you do a different build everytime and no run is the same. I am still a newbie in ftl but i feel like every run is generally the same. Like I feel like the only things that differ between runs (beside ships) is the augmentations, weapons and the systems your ships has. Regarding the system you see the same ones every run so I usually buy the best ones like hacking. There is a few cool augmentations but I feel like most of them don't define your "build". The last thing is the weapons. I feel like this it the thing im least knowledgable about. is there really a huge diverse weapon pool to create a bunch of cool builds. Like for me I just find something that breaks shields then having something else to do damage once their down. However, whether I use a beam or a burst or whatever, it generally feels like the same game plan. Can someone explain where the build diversity comes from because I feel like im not exploring the game mechanics. Also unrelated question but if i have a heavy laser and a flak, should I use the flak to pop shields then heavy laser as damage? [link] [comments]

SPOILERS Multiverse was mean to me Posted: 20 Apr 2021 09:28 AM PDT Spoilers ahead. So i had the Ancient Activator finally, and entered the Last Stand. I'm in great shape, with full weapons, shields, max almost everything else. I'm loaded for bear and eager to proceed. I activated the Activator, and it took me to a new sector. Cool!! A new "secret" sector, probably going to finish a long quest with Ancients, and it's got enough of a head start to hit 20 beacons too. Awesome! How fun! Great mod. First jump, a ship has a question and has five answers to choose from. I go with number five "try to break free". Wrong answer, much wronger than Giant Spiders without a clone bay. The enemy ship takes all systems and subsystems down to one bar. Everything. Every damn one. Complete and utter crippling. Gibbed moments later after an unwinnable fight. That's just a little too roguelike maybe, and a instant loss seems not exactly reasonable from a dialogue choice. Goddamit, that was mean. Burned hand teaches best i suppose. Still, excellent mod. Thanks to all the developers! [link] [comments]
