Is there any file that I can edit to allow for bigger ship names? Posted: 03 Jun 2021 02:35 PM PDT Hello commanders, I love naming my ships, the problem is that the game only allows for very short names, so I generally have to just use the first letter of some words. There a couple of names that are only the first letters of each word in fact! So I was wondering if there is anything that I can do to change that? Gratitude. [link] [comments] | ||

Question About Endgame Systems Choice Posted: 03 Jun 2021 08:17 PM PDT Hi, this is kind of an in depth question. I've been watching a lot of streamers and vods to try and figure out what the best and most consistent strategies are vs the flagship, and I've seen that hacking and cloaking are clearly the two best store purchasable systems available and will almost always be bought if able. My question is about the third system, and what good players look for when deciding which system to finish out their ship:

In which I am rudely reminded that FTL is a Roguelike Posted: 03 Jun 2021 05:25 AM PDT I played a lot of FTL when it first came out unlocking a bunch of ships and chalking up several victories over the final boss. I hadn't played it in years though until I saw some random streamer play a campaign on Twitch. He was a self confessed novice who relied on Twitch chat for advice on the various weapons and systems but he still sailed thought a normal mode campaign and beat the boss without any real problems. I used to love that game and I figured I was OK at it. I should be able to do that. I started a new campaign with default Kestrel thinking to break myself back in easy. I had a pretty straightforward ride and by the time I hit the final Boss I had a tricked out Kestrel with Defence drone1, Cloak and Teleport. The meta may have moved on sin ce I last played but I remember this triumvirate used to be the key to easy mode on the final boss. I also had a sweet loadout of weapons: Burst Laser II, Flak I and Halberd Beam. How could I go wrong? Boss phase 1 and Boss phase 2 were both easy. I vaguely remembered that it was a good idea to whittle down the rebel crew to one member but I couldn't remember which one so I didn't bother trying. These first two phases went so smoothly that I felt pretty confident going in to the final battle with a full health Kestrel. I had forgotten about the Zoltan shield of course so that delayed me boarding to shut down the missiles. Not a problem. I couldn fend off a few missile strikes while my weapons cut through the shield. I was caught off-guard when they mind controlled my best fighter Is that new? Ah well I can deal with it. It just requires a bit of careful management to keep the mind controlled unit from destroying anything vital while at the same time keeping anyone from being killed. The rebel boarders started pouring in at this point. I have upgraded doors so perhaps I can suffocate them before they do damage but they are whacking away at my engines and don't really want to lose that sweet dodge chance so I send some crew to deal with them. This is trickier than I expected because my best fighters are currently brawling each other due to mind control so I have to micro manage from other parts of the ship. While all this is going on my attention may have gotten distracted and I missed a cloak opportunity. Some shots get through. i have loads of hit points so not overly concerned but a few fires break out. I would send my Rock crew members to deal with the fires but sadly they are currently engaged trying to fight off boarders / mind controlled crew. At least I have finally whittled away the stupid Zoltan shield so I can get a bit of payback with my weapon combo. Not sure which enemy system to target first but I opt for mind control because it so annoying. I didn't bother sending over boarders because none of my fighters are in a fit state to send over due to mind control and incoming boarders. The fires are getting out of control in a quite a few places by this stage so I start to evacuate oxygen but I have to start shuffling crew round to avoid suffocating them. How the heck did I lose my defence drone and not notice it. I am taking too many missile hits. Oh no my cloak just burned down. Here comes another super weapon strike. To hell with that I will just laser / flak / halberd them to death before they can do me in. Oh shoot , I just lost weapons. I need to send someone over to fix it but the room is on fire. I am still not quite sure how it all went so wrong. My once perfect Kestrel was a ball of flames and all I could do was watch her final bits of health slip away as my battered crew tried to make repairs in rooms that were wither burning or evacuated of oxygen.
