Mathematic analysis on why regular mantis are better than free mantis (in my first comment) [multiverse mod]

I’ve always found cloaking to be overrated, am I doing something wrong?

    Posted: 18 Jul 2021 12:19 PM PDT

I've beaten the flagship about 5X on Normal mode, each time with defense drones, 50% evasion, and 3 shields. I've never been able to beat it with cloaking, but everyone says it's the best subsystem, which makes me think I'm using it wrong. I just don't understand how to get over the 20 second vulnerability period, and find defense drones to be much more reliable. Any suggestions?

The best boarding ship in the Multiverse

Got a 2nd scrap recovery arm. Which other augments are stackable?

    Posted: 18 Jul 2021 06:10 PM PDT

Woo, first win! (Cloaking and boarding is really good) [on a side note what even is the super weapon? it didn't fire during the fight it seems]

    Hacking doesn't feel necessary

    Posted: 18 Jul 2021 08:13 PM PDT

If you put the 80 scrap + reactor into weapons it's basically a more versatile hack. you really have to coordinate an L2 hack whereas weapons just knocks the shields down.

No vulnerability to drones or zoltan shield.

I've been playing a lot of Fed cruiser games and learned cloak/teleport is a killer anti-flagship build. With weapons you just knock out med bay and that's it. Hacking never feels like a must have in the same way cloak and especially teleport are.

I know the sub loves hacking but if I'm high on scrap and weapons late game, I think I'm putting it into mind control from now on. The niche I may still buy hacking for, is it's early or mid game and my weapons are too weak to stand a chance

Unlock all ships hack for non-steam version of the game?

    Posted: 18 Jul 2021 07:59 PM PDT

Got FTL and want to unlock all ships instantly, but I bought the non-steam version so the dropbox file change doesn't work.

    rock B woes

    Posted: 18 Jul 2021 01:51 PM PDT

I hear beating the game with every ship unlocks crystal cruiser, and given how complicated I assume that is (haven't actually looked it up, just know it starts with the stasis pod) I figured I'd just beat the game with every ship. Enter rock B achievements: Killing a ship with defense drones, easy enough; killing a crew member on fire while boarding? Seems about as difficult as the third achievement, getting to the secret sector, which basically unlocks the secret ship anyway. I've blown like 5 runs in a row trying to get this stupid achievement, which doesn't even play to the ships strengths other than having rockmen. I find it very annoying and am tempted to cheat. Rant over.

How do you rank the ships with all variants?

    Posted: 18 Jul 2021 07:01 AM PDT

    1. Lanius: Both A and B are strong
    2. Crystal: B has early game autoship weakness but otherwise is also strong
    3. Zoltan: C drags it down overall. A/B are easy wins. Extra reactor + beams + Z shield is killer
    4. Kestrel: Tends to make for a great gunship which is one of the most reliable builds
    5. Mantis: Strong boading options, which mean high loot
    6. Engi: Reliant on drones. B drags down the score due to lack of crew
    7. Federation: One less usable system slot. No good weapons on C though it has teleport and an okay boarding team
    8. Slug. Only C is good. B is very bad
    9. Rock. Two really bad ships and one mediocre one. A needs to find a good ammo free weapon fast. B has no venting
    10. Stealth. If no shield wasn't enough of a damper, C doesn't even have cloak. And B has the slowest weapon loading time in the game. A is quite good though.

    Drone part management/conservation strats

    Posted: 18 Jul 2021 10:41 AM PDT

What are your thoughts re: drone part use/management/conservation? (In vanilla, AE enabled)

Making an anology to fuel management, I've often seen 12 fuel as a good number to aim for to tide you over from store to store--if rewards/events give you more that's great, if not you can replenish up to ~12 at the next store.

Not that I am advocating for buying drone parts from the store (I consider this a big waste/loss in most circumstances), but does anyone have a number of drone parts they try to hover around?

    To explain my question further:

Most runs on hard I aim to have hacking which means having at least 5 or so drone parts for the flagship (in case you mess up the dodge in phase 2 or maybe hacking gets hacked in phase 1).

I would say overall I tend to hold too many drone parts in reserve. I rarely use drone control unless the ship starts with it or I'm playing AE disabled or something, but I will often try not to hack enemy ships in mid-game and even into sectors 6 or 7 because I worry about running out... And then more often than not I end up with 20 something drone parts anyway 8| at the end of the game

How can I manage my drone parts better? Would love to hear thoughts from other players :)
