FTL v. 1.6.12 - Japanese Localization Posted: 20 Dec 2019 10:53 AM PST The only change in this update is the addition of Japanese translation. The localization team 8-4 has put in a spectacular amount of effort into doing the game's huge text library justice, so I hope the Japanese players out there enjoy it! The update should be made available throughout the day on all storefronts. [link] [comments]
What is you guys’ LEAST favorite FTL song? Posted: 20 Dec 2019 04:48 PM PST I'm planning on making a poll for this sub's favorite FTL song, but (without the victory chords) there are 37. If I can get it to 36, then I can proceed. Rules: Most upvoted song is eliminated Out of any repeats, the most upvoted post will be the only one considered. Link for the playlist: https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLqqbIIJ0YzpQZjvg_RPd0hX-nqloV8rmS I will make & release the first poll on Christmas Edit: I will not interfere with this post (I.e. upvoting) to make it as accurate as possible Also typo [link] [comments]

Kestral A vs Flagship, critique my plan Posted: 21 Dec 2019 01:02 AM PST Hi, I'm playing on Easy and want to finally beat this game. Can you guys give feedback on my final boss plan: Ship config: https://s.nimbusweb.me/attachment/3669715/2egiz077eseb0dnw3mzs/z1wBialkQ1fbsLb4/Screenshot_2019-12-21_15.50.06.jpg Plan:
My main concern is I don't have cloaking. I'm concerned about the phase 3 super weapon. Do you guys think I should search for the store in sector 8, and look for fights + sell fire beam for 150 scrap? Or beeline towards the flagship? He's a full screen away at the moment, heading towards me though. Also, most people seem to prefer targeting shields over piloting. What do you guys think of targeting shields with 2 burst lasers and a small bomb? I don't have any intial or reloading augments. Any other general advice is also welcome, thanks. Help! There's a game in the same vein as FTL that I'm trying to find but I can't remember the name! Posted: 20 Dec 2019 03:00 PM PST I played a demo for this game awhile back but I can't remember what it's called and I've been googling for awhile now It's pixel art, but in a way, more detailed than FTL. The game starts off and a robot pulls you out of hibernation and you maybe talk to a ghost? Or you are a clone of a dead guy maybe? Can't remember.. I think the basic idea is that you are the captain of a ship, have to fight battles, etc. But instead of a top down view like FTL, you actually looked through a window/it was kind of first person in a way? Hopefully you guys can help me out.. posting here because it seems like FTL fans might also be interested in it. [link] [comments]

I just got screwed out of the best run ever Posted: 20 Dec 2019 09:18 AM PST Yes, I know it's a common experience for this game. Yes, I know it's part of the 'roguelike' aspect of the game. But it was such an opportunity for fun that I was screwed out of by such extreme chance. I only wish I'd known to back out and scumsave it. I have to complain to you people. I recently won against the rebel flagship, finally. Key to my success (besides picking up a second burst laser II, after which I was strangely weapon deprived) was the fire bomb component I picked up in an event. Would normally not bother keeping it around, but I ran with it and it not only got me wins alongside the burst-laser, it was fun, too! Setting your opponents' ships up with unconquerable fires and then watching them spread is super satisfying, and in no way something you'd find on a personality inventory for psycopathy. And then in another run, I found it, and in the perfect circumstances, as well! I got the fire beam! I got it, playing with the rock cruiser! I could force their shields down, lay a single line of fire, and their entire ship would burn up in not much time at all. More than once I did some organics completely dirty by lighting their O2 bay on fire, and then immediately beaming in two of my rock crew to just stand there in the flames like life-support bouncers. It was *so much fun* to use! Not only that, I got it on an insanely lucky run. To the point that by the end of the first sector I had: level-2 shields, a couple engine upgrades, a gifted scrap collection arm, the swarm missiles weapon, and the crew teleporter. Plus loads of scrap and like 3 crewmembers from events. I was insanely lucky early on, to the point that I would have been competitive even in sectors 3/4 already, and was also set up to snowball insanely. Then I got even more lucky. In sector 2 I found a store with a burst II and bought it. Then literally the next jump I found a charge ion weapon. So in review, my weapon setup was the following: BL II, swarm missiles, charge ion, fire beam. Essentially I could use any combination of the first three to take down shields, set them alight, and then watch them burn. I could also use the ion gun to selectively disable their systems as this happens, so they would pose no threat. Was never something I would target as a outright strategy in the game, but it was getting me wins, and it was *so much fun!* But then it was completely taken from me, in circumstances that I swear are so fringe it felt deliberate. A few jumps into sector II I came up against some middling enemy, that had Burst II or some similar AI weapon that shot 3 lasers at a time. I can't recall what other weapons they had, but they hardly mattered. What mattered is that they immediately got off five shots, all of which hit, all of which started fires. Yes, it's irony, I am aware. The first shot came down, overwhelmed my shield, and started fires in a useless hall near the engine room. I have spare staff, so rather than vent into space I sent two of my rock guys to stomp on it. Would have been more than enough. The second shot comes down, in the engine room. Damages my engine, and starts two fires. Luckily, my remaining rock guy works there, and he's stomping on it. I start considering opening bulkheads and using vacuum. Then another triple shot breaks through, and starts fires in another useless hall near the other useless hall by the engine room, and so this time right next to doors/O2. I immediately open bulkheads and start drawing out the air. Another shot comes down, all three hit and the one that gets through my shield hits the O2 bay, destroys it, starts a fire. I immediately open doors there and in the adjacent doors control room, because at this point I can't risk not having doors stuck open. I am looking to retreat now, and my drive is almost charged. My opponent has been overrun with fire in their shields (destroyed), O2 (destroyed), doors (destroyed), medical (destroyed), engine (damaged) and weapons (damaged). The entire time I've been throwing lasers and ion (I can only manage two weapons at a time) at their weapons room, trying to take it down, but I always miss. I would be winning this, except for their literal 100% luck, landing every shot, starting every fire, and always getting misses on their weapons bay. I'm sitting here waiting until I can leap away, when they get their last volley off, and again all three hit. Through the shield, onto my doors, it's destroyed. Now their weapons room burns down and blows up. I consider not even leaping away, as I know they can't harm me right now. But out of the slight possibility that they can get their fire under control, I decide it's not worth it and leap off. Now that I'm away, I immediately pause and look at my predicament: O2 is out, and so are doors. I have 6 staff left all with decent health, but O2 is so low that rooms are about to become hazardous, so I can't even take the time to heal them before I make the dash to try and fix O2 and hopefully doors. I kept the game paused and open for most of the day and agonized over making sure I could save this run. It was not possible. At the very least I had to get the O2 fixed. I could technically leave doors, and so long as O2 was up I could heal people and maybe make an effort at repairing things. But if I couldn't fix O2 the game was over. I couldn't. Back of the napkin math suggested all of my crew would die trying to do it or else get it done and die right after. It was too far through vaccuum to get there, and it didn't matter if I tried to do doors at the same time. I even spent some time trying to optimize who to send into the room in what order, so that people wouldn't die at the same time and I maybe wouldn't lose repair progress. If it was possible, I would have done it. But I tried as best as I could figure out to do. Everyone ran for it, we got the O2 up, but the last two guys couldn't make it anywhere sealed from there, and so of course they died and I lost that otherwise incredibly lucky game. TL;DR: I got amazingly lucky with awesome fire weapons and was having a good time burning people. The AI then got unfathomably lucky, and started fires throughout my ship, ending my run. The worm turned. [link] [comments]
Do beacons follow patterns within a sector? Posted: 20 Dec 2019 12:52 PM PST I notice I get a lot of quests from beasons in the first vertical line (x=1). Also I got a free weapon from a beacon only accessible going past the exit beacon and returning. Do beacons tend to follow patterns based on where they are? I've seen a lot of discussion on sector strategy but not so much the chance of treasure drop placements, quest placements etc. Seems most guys go to beacons that are highly connected to maximize scouting and routing options.
