    A couple days ago, I returned to FTL after many years without playing. After making a back-up for nostalgia's sake, I deleted my around-7-years-old save file and started from scratch.

    I had unlocked a couple ships already, and was playing with a Federation Cruiser named Medic (get it?). In sector 5, I encountered an enemy equipped with two ions, a laser drone and a pea-shooter of its own. All of this in an asteroid field. I figured this would be the end of me, but I had managed to unlock Federation B in this one run, so I felt happy enough. I've always been pretty terrible at this game, so I usually just strive to get as far as possible and unlock stuff.

    Then the craziest thing happened: in the span of like 3 seconds, an asteroid blew up the laser drone, and another one took a shot for my ship. This bought me just barely enough time to charge my ftl and get out of there with a single point of hull integrity left.

    I went on to unlock the Zoltan Cruiser in the same run.

    Now I remember why I loved this game so much back in the day. That was absolutely insane.

    I bought the game during the steam sale and I'm wondering if there is any recent tutorials besides the 6-7 years old ones, if not are the old tutorials still good to teach me? Thanks in advance!

    I know the flak gun II is not that good without preigniter, but I figured it would be fun to shower opposing ships with SPACE GARBAGE

    (My game is in french since I'm french - duh - \"DCA\" means flak if you were ever wondering)

    How to enable the fleet jump rings?

    I was watching rand118's video and I realized that he had those almost transparent rings that indicates where the flat will jump. I can't find the option to enable it. Is this a mod?

    Flagship boarding for a crew (-1) kill: Systems Priority

    Plan on easy mode is this:

    1. Kill gunners and weapons in this order: missile, ion, beam. Laser gunner stays alive
    2. Take out doors (explained next)
    3. Bust cloaking to avoid my rock getting pinned and killed (other boarder is mantis)
    4. From there keep killing whoever comes to the cloaking or adjacent 2 tile room for repairs
    5. Ship weapons assist with hitting med bay or shields first, if needed (my weapons are weak, Fed B cruiser with either 2 shot laser/1 shot ion, or a breach missile which I intend to mainly use). L4 artillery beam though.

    Feedback appreciated. I'm curious how you guys do it and why

    I lost a few guys before due to doors but didn't have L3 teleport then. I still think it is a good place to attack first, It seems to funnel marks to come into a 2 tile area and opens the ability to run at least for the mantis. Bonus that cloaking is one door away.

    F*cking MANTS C

    Okay, let me tell you what's happening real quick.

    I'm kind of a new FTL player, and have defeated the final boss in easy mode with all ships but a few C types (stealth, mantis, slug, federation).

    My issue is : although the C version of the slug ship looks really decent, the 3 others look and feel like utter garbage.

    I'm currently trying to play the Mantis ship, and I'm wondering : what's the best strategy for this ship ?
    I've been trying to use stun + lock with lanius to asphyxiate the enemy crew, but it doesn't seem to work very well - and lets me get crushed by anything with more than 1 laser.

    What I'm trying to do rn is just reset until I get a decent sector 1 with a shop that gives me a nice weapon and/or more mantis crew so that I'm able to use TP efficiently without getting crushed by missiles.

    Any tips with how to play this ship ?

    I'm at a store in early sector 7 (Engi, friendly), hoping to find cloaking at another store. There is a hull repair drone at the store, thinking of buying it instead.

    • Augments: drone recovery arm, long range scanners, shield recharge booster.
    • At the current store: Hull repair arm, hull repair drone, shield boosters, anti-personel drone.
    • Pre-flagship: I'm thinking of switching from defensive/boarding play to incorporating breach missles. Stocking 2 more missiles from the store. I'm taking lots of hull damage from overwhelming laser fire while artillery beam does damage (my other weapons suck). Other option is L4 shields
    • Power rationing: if I get hull repair drone, plan is to sap med bay/o2 to keep 4 bars for drones. I'll probably do this for L1 cloaking too (3 bar reserve) if I opt to gamble and search.
    • Flagship: Can hull repair drone see me through? I know the general phase 1 strategy to kill all gunners except #2/laser gunner. Then I beam guys in to take out doors (for kiting), cloaking (teleport blocking) and medbay if anyone is still alive. My phase 2 strategy against breach drones and the surge is still weak.
