Appreciation for FTL and the community Posted: 05 May 2020 10:05 PM PDT Hey guys, I haven't really been active here on the subreddit, but I do check now and then and I'm always glad to see the memes, posts about wild things happening to people, and the discussions about the game that are going on. I've played FTL for years now; I remember going over to my buddy's place one evening, him showing it to me, and my being amazed at this slick little space rogue-like that just seemed to do everything right. I got the game as soon as I had the chance after that. Then came a thousand failures--whether that was getting to the flagship for the first time and getting absolutely destroyed, running out of fuel and being overtaken by the fleet, or any number of the random events that can do you in. I'd name my crew members and get attached to them only to lose them to giant alien spiders or for them to suffocate at the last moment trying to repair the med bay. Sometimes the exact opposite would happen though, and against all odds they'd fix the system at the last moment and save the mission. The stories associated with each run were as great as the gameplay was engaging--opening / closing doors desperately trying to put out system fires, getting boarded invariably when I had absolutely no plan for dealing with that, pausing and rerouting power to different systems in that last ditch effort. When it worked it felt great, and when it didn't and everything blew up in my face I just wanted to try again! Either way the imagination that went into this game always ended up making a story. This is all to say: 1) What an awesome game, and 2) I'm just so glad that even some 8 years later this game is still being talked about, and that it has such a great, active community. Thanks Subset, and thanks to you guys--glad we all got the chance to enjoy this together. [link] [comments]

What would you want in a sequel to Faster Than Light? Posted: 05 May 2020 08:35 AM PDT I think I would love the ability to unlock my own rooms / parts / upgrades and build my own ship; some type of progress that can persist between play. Perhaps an endless mode where the game doesn't stop after sector 10? [link] [comments]

My angry rant about Mantis boarders. Posted: 05 May 2020 09:28 AM PDT I just need to express my anger and tell my story of the time I had terrible RNG. The experience has helped me become a better player, but I am still kind of irritated. So there I was, playing on Normal with the Kestrel A. I'm doing pretty good for the sector I am in, with Level 2 shields and a Flak I, Burst Laser Mark II, and Artemis Missiles. I come across a Mantis ship in the Engi Homeworlds. They board, I suffer hull damage from their ship until I blow it up, but I have the situation under control. Right after the mantises take out the oxygen system, they die from lack of oxygen because of me opening the airlocks when they boarded. So, one of my crew members die, and the other two are stuck in the Level 1 medbay, the healing effects being nullified by the complete lack of oxygen in my ship. So, I am screwed. It is a stalemate. My two remaining crew are at 14 and 7 health, respectively. But just when I think I am dead, I realize I can upgrade the medbay to Level 2, then heal my crew members to full health, then have them both fix the oxygen, and then run back to the medbay to heal up. So I do that. I have them fix all the broken systems, and I breath a sigh of relief. I FTL jump to the long-range beacon, and see in horror that my only option to go forward is the Mantis Homeworlds. So, I let out a sigh of defeat, and go there. Immediately at the second beacon, I am attacked by Mantis boarders. I almost lose a crew member, but I make it, thanks to my upgraded medbay. With my hull now at 50%, I upgrade to Level 3 shields and prepare for even more mantis boarders. I jump to the next beacon, and it is silent. I jump to the next beacon, and what do you know?INTRUDERS ON BOARD. So, I suffocate the mantises again, (my now Level 2 doors helped) I blow up the enemy ship, and my hull is at 25%. So, I am pretty scared. I jump to the next beacon, and it says there is an automated rebel scout in sleep mode. I think to myself, huh, these are easy to kill, there is a store a couple beacons away, I need the scrap, what's the worst thing that could happen? Cloaking, Level 3 shields, 3 lasers, and a missile launcher are all on board that automated rebel scout. It easily defeats my ship like I kill a fly with a flyswatter. My ship breaks into several pieces, and I click on Save & Quit and go to bed. [link] [comments]

Posted: 05 May 2020 02:52 PM PDT For the life of me I can't figure out a good strategy for Engi A on medium. I've beaten the game with almost every other class A ship (On med) but have failed dozens of attempts with this. I've read in various strategy forums that this ship is regarded as moderately powerful, but I just don't seem to get it even with the "best" drops. I've tried:
I always reach the point in the later sectors where I get absolutely rocked in 1-3 piss poor matchups for my build and get destroyed. It feels like any ship with a stock investment in drones is going to be worse due to lack of consistency.. Or am I missing something?? Thanks!! [link] [comments]

Does anyone have a download link for FTL: Descent into Darkness 2? Posted: 05 May 2020 12:44 PM PDT Hello, as I noticed you can't seem to find any download links for the mod.. I recently got to play the game again and all of the great mods, however DID2 isn't to be found anywhere; every dropbox links are expired and show a 404 error. If anyone could help me I'd be grateful! [link] [comments]
Kestrel A - Mind Control or Drone Control? Posted: 05 May 2020 09:58 AM PDT I want to take the good old for a spin, full gunship, no boarding, so this made me wonder. If you already had Hacking and Cloaking, which system would you take next? MC seems subpar on a gunship, but DC eats away drones. [link] [comments]
How does the crystal cruiser unlock quest work? Posted: 05 May 2020 07:04 AM PDT The title says it all; how does the quest work? Can I use Rock C and go to a rock homeworlds sector 7 and go to the hidden sector? Or do I have to do the quest of getting the augmentation and go to the Zoltan scientist, then go to rock homeworlds?
