I think there's a lot of potential weird and cool combos, but off the top of my head...

A rock/zoltan hybrid would be cool looking and interesting in practice. They are both religious species and the durable shell and energetic core of the zoltan would make for a formidable creature. Their ships would also be extra durable with the zoltan shield and rock plating.

Engi/mantis would be badass, a technological monster. Maybe a little like the Alien xenomorph, but with a kinder heart.

Slugs and humans.. I guess?
