I just got this game and the second half of this lovely video by SiIvaGunner summarizes my first experience with the flagship pretty well.
Victory with double vulcan and double automated re-loader

FTL alien species as Pokémon

Pokémon is another one of my favorite games, so I drew some connections between them:

Rockmen - Regirock, a perfect match.

Crystalmen - Regice, Also pretty spot on, works with sister species/fellow Regi.

Engi - Registeel, kinda just to have all 3 legendary Golems, but his face could be interpreted as a computer screen, and both have abysmal offensive capabilities.

Zoltan - Rotom, it's not a humanoid shape but putting power into systems is both of their things. I considered Minun & Plusle, who are humanoid, fragile, and give off energy to power up their allies, but they're much too friendly.

Slugmen - Malamar, not humanoid, squishy, psychic powers, and sinister just matches both of these too well. Swalot kinda gets at the Slugs greedieness/gluttony but thats it, and Slugma despite being a slug is also made of lava so nah.

Mantis - Scyther, speedy viscious big bug. The Mantis sprite is kinda ambiguous you could interpret them as having wings, which may be part of their double movement speed. Leavanny and Lurantis are the only other big mantis pokémon that might match but neither are as visably aggressive as Scyther.

Lanius - I don't see like a 100% match for this one, no 'mon has anything like the Lanius' oxygen drain. Meltan/Melmetal has the shape changing & absorbing metal ability, but one is a little friend and the other is a big dude that pummels his foes with giant nuts, neither matching the reclusive scavenger nature of the Lanius. Bisharp is the next closest match I could come up with just because he has spikes so any ideas on them just so I'd have 1 for all the aliens that be cool.
